Car is running a little hot?

The other day i hit a pothole(huge) and the car was overheating and making a strange noise upon startup. I got home and realized the radiator reinforcement had been pushed up and was holding the fan so it wouldnt spin. I pulled it back to factory measurements. I then turned the car back on and the noise was gone and the fan was spinning freely. I drove the car for about half and hour today and the car started running around the 100 mark (3/4 quarters) on the temp gauge(fan was spinning). The car never went above 100 but its only 60 and colder outside so im sure that helped. By the way the car is a 97 e420. Any tips or advice you guys might know?

Thanks,
Bobby

100 degrees celcius on the temp gauge is not unusual. The thermostat on my e-class opens on 92 degrees.

The coolant should hold a temperature at least over 85 degrees to ensure proper lubrication from the oil.

If you have a digital climate control you can hold the rest button for a few seconds until the display changes. press the left auto button until you get to 6. then on the right side you'll get a more precise temperature reading than the gauge. please watch this when driving and tell us what you see.

My friend's W124 had similar heating problems, until one day he found out that his Engine oil is short 5 liters, he filled it then after some driving his temp. gauge showed 120 C and weird noise started coming from the Engine, very hot engine oil started coming out from the radiator water tank opening, yes .. the engine oil somehow leaked to the radiator system thru some worn part called 'the oil cooler' ... I don't know if the W210 have similar design but I felt like sharing this discovery. You may want to check with a trusted mechanic.
