Anyone using LED's for interior / cluster lighting? Need to repalce a bulb in the cluster thought I would upgrade while I had it out. Looking for a source to buy as well. Thanks

OK OK tell me why you wouldn't use LED's...you know I value your opinion

actually, i've not done the LED on the interiors. not having read up on this,
i'd like to know of the cautions to this as well. the only LED mod i've done
has been add LED to the rear license plate. i played around with EL light
cords but didnt like the results so i pulled them. i was trying to create some-
thing like the S series but failed to get a smooth, integral classy light in my E320

The light

when you can find on that fits and is the correct wattage,is to directional and the back lighting from the dash cluster looks bad. It's like how surprised you are the first time you pull the climate control cluster to replace the buld and you think how the heck can such a tiny bulb light up that whole display? single led would only light up the center.Since the actual diode is only the size of the head of a pin and the lens shoots the light out straight unlike the tiny incandescent bulb.

Ohlord's right about the directional thing. I've tried it already with blue LEDs (perhaps white might work a bit better). For the dash the numbers light up OK as there are some reflectors/perspex inside to disribute light around the the dash a bit but the numbers furtherest away from the bulbs will still be noticeably dimmer (N.B, the bulbs aren't exactly lighting the center btw). The light on the needles is plain aweful, almost non-existent. I'd say forget it, unless you can put reflectors in there to distribute the light better, especially for lighting the needles.

I just did my dash with LED bulbs and it looks alot better than the old bulbs that were in there.
Mine you it took some experimenting buying different Leds to see what looked the best.:y

What did you finally decide on? Color, Brand, where to purchase? I 'm still not convinced I shouldn't use them. Thanks.
