Question about brake pads

Hello

Going to change my brake pads. So i bought new set of ATE brake pads for my front brakes which are from CLK550 (W209).

So i noticed that the main brake pad has strange metal layer which can be removed. See the images:

So wanna know what does this layer do? I must remove it before install the pads, or it must be mounted on the pads and installed with them?

Tanks

google 'ate anti squeal shim' and see what you think. seems that is a
variation on a theme for anti squeal devices

At 38k, I replaced my disc pads with ceramic. We'll see. Can't stand the dust.

Is it made by Galfer? Galfer is well known brand in motorcycle scene. If so, I may go with the same brand brake pad. I'm pretty sure mine needs both the pad and disks.

As for the metal piece, it does look like anti-rattle shim that most brake pads comes with. They have different shapes and colors. You can choose to leave them out. I usually install them with the pad. they are design to be use with it, so why not.
