Looking at e430s- Easiest way to if it has HIDs?
Hello,
I'm looking at e430s and am wondering what the easiest way to tell is if one has HIDs or not. Can anyone offer some advise?
Thanks much,
Ken

Look at the bulb
If it looks like this it is an H7 they are always the high beam if the other bulb low beam has a ballast HID unless someone did a cheap conversion and then you will tell by the crappy pink light that barely lights up the road
If you want brighter H7 bulbs in the high and low beams

Mine came with halogen lights and I have the headlamp washers.
The easiest way I can tell, aside from turning the lights on is the lenses. The Hid lenses are much clearer than the halogen ones.

my turn.....
the halogen headlights look like this
...whereas the HIDs look like this
in other words, the halogen/H7s has simple flutes, single outer lens.
The reflector HIDs have a dbl lens, in which the lower half of the outer
lens is clear

Does this summarize?
If you have a picture, and it doesn't have head lamp washers, the car most likely doesn't have HIDs and you can largely rule it out (unless grey market or has aftermarket).
If it has washers, you need to investigate further, by examining the lens, turning it on, looking for the voltage sticker, or checking the VIN.

the only problem with the above is that they all, save for ohlord's suggestion,
rely on secondary indications and does not affirmatively determine whether
the car has HID or not.
if it *does* the car will have...
it *probably* does if it has....

if it *does* the car will have...
- HID bulb
- ballast
it *probably* does if it has....
- headlight washer
- HID reflector enclosure
- it looks much brighter than normal
- car owner tells you it does
- the light is blue/purple and has projector design
- VIN interpretation of the original equipment
- the high voltage warning sticker

I thought
I made it simple in that post.Ray sorted it out. Why do things have to be so over analized
If it is an H7 it has no ballast, if it has a ballast with a big lightening bolt it is HID.
Simple.
