Removing dirt between fender liner and fender trim

Hello,

As seen in the attached image, dirt is accumulating in the gap between the fender liner and the trim. I have two questions:
1. What is the best way to remove this? Would it make sense to remove the fender liner and vacuum?
2. Is this gap supposed to be there and look like this? Seems like a design flaw if so.

Thanks very much.

This looks to be the area closest to the door, but I can’t tell for sure. In any case if you remove the front wheel fender liner, the area behind the wheel closest to the door might need cleaning. I needed to replace a hydraulic line on a wagon and there was a lot of debris trapped there. Be careful with the 10mm plastic nuts when removing the liner. It is easy to break the stud off if you apply too much pressure when loosening the nut. You can try spray lubricant or some have reported that tightening first sometimes helps.

I no longer own a W210 so I can't compare. Here is a picture of another and it looks better aligned than yours.

Reach in and feel between the hard plastic and the fender. There should be a rubber seal along the edge of the fender liner. As the car ages the rubber may deteriorate and fall out. If so you have to replace the fender liner and that is not a difficult job.
FWIW, I replaced the front fender liners on Mr car several years ago due to deteriorated rubber.
