Unhappy hosed by a lincoln navigator...car fixed!!

This was more than a fender bender; travelling westbound on the long island expwy I came up on heavy traffic, unfortunately the genius in the lincoln navigator in front of me didn't decide to stop until the last second, when he crunched the person in front of him; needless to say, BAS ABS and all, I couldn't stop in time either. This was the outcome of the crash...nothing happen to his rear, either...
the way the headlights got pushed back..it kinda looks like a 2003 E class...

Well this really sucks.
Do you have to pay it yourself or will insurance cover it. Would this be his fault technically?
I always try to stay 3 secs behind cars.

I'll take your front bumper if you can get your insurance company to get you a new one. Scratch it up if you can. I will have it painted.

damn, that is nasty. It hurts just looking at those pix. It also makes me think about the beauty of the Eclass. $13k? I'd get a second opinion.

All in all, just another reason why I left LI many moons ago.

OUCH!!! I can feel your pain. On a good note though, changing all of the parts you just described including your 2 front fenders and you can update your front end into a 2000+ if you're into it.

Ouch. Looks like your whole top end got crunched back and the lower bumper looks perfectly intact. Wow for that.

On the bright side, that Merc emblem looks salvageable.

Keep your old parts

I would be happy to buy your old bumper if they are just going to toss it away. Now would be a good time to update your front end to a 2000+.

Unfortunately, 90% of the time in a rear end accident, the fault is the guy behind you. Since the rule of thumb is, you need to keep your distance, so you have enough time to stop/brake.

In most cases where 3 cars are involved. The middle car is #1 (primary), the last car is #2 (secondary).

ouch ouch ouch!!!

Sorry to see that happened, do you think it could've been avoided (had you been paying more attention or keepen longer distance), I especially hate it when there is really nothing you can do to avoid the accident given the circumstances.

maybe i could have kept a longer distance. You know how people are, though, you follow too far behind and somebody squeezes in between. I'm thinking if somebody squeezed between me and the navigator I could have hit the guy in front at an even quicker pace.... who knows, right?? I'm generally not a person who tails people though. To answer your questions, my insurance company will cover it, less my deductible, of course. I think since my car went under the navigator, that's the reason why the airbags didn't deploy! unfortunately there wasn't any way to avoid this; the long island expwy is under construction, so there is no shoulder, and there was somebody to my right so i couldn't swerve to avoid him.. I was thinking second opinion or a 2000+ update, too, but my dealer's body shop won't do it. The passenger side fender actually only had to be touched up on the top right corner there, if you can see from pic #3 I think it is; those xenon lights are not salvageable, either. Although they still light up (so do the high beams), the entire assembly is bent out of shape.... Will keep you all posted as to how this goes...
i didn't even hit him that fast, and the engine oil cap popped off, can you believe it? I took a look at the car all apart today, and luckily there was no frame damage! all the crumple zones are intact, including the ones over the fenders and all. I escaped lucky; I was praying there wouldn't be any frame damage to the car....
