airco only works on the right side

airco only works on the right side
I've a E220 from '96 (W210)
It's a little strange problem. When I put both the thermostats completely in the coolest (blue) position the airco works only on the right side of the car.
The left side blows the normal uncooled air.
When I turned both wheels in the white or red position the head on both sides is the same.
Does anybody know what's wrong? I don't think the car have a complete separate airo system with 2 cooling elements or am I wrong and is only one working?
