Bad instrument cluster

99 E320 SEDAN
Unhappy Bad instrument cluster
My 99 E320 has a problem with the instrument cluster. I can't read the odometer, time, temp. etc. The screen is blanked over by a bunch of lines where the digital LED should be. Does anyone know what the problem could be? A new cluster is $730 but I would like to know if this one can be repaired.

You must also find someone (I think the dealer does it) to set the correct odometer mileage as well if you end up buying a new or used one.
