Mixing new and used tires on a 4 Matic
Discount Tire would not mix new and used tires on my 4 Matic because my ramaining tires were too worn. All of the tires are the same size (215/55R16) but one of my tires measured 6/32 tread depth, two tires measured 7/32 tread depth and the 2 new tires would have been 10/32. They said they cannot mount tires with a difference greater than 2/32 on a 4 Matic and said I needed to buy 2 additional new tires. Does this sound right? That seems like a pretty insignificant difference to me. They said they called the dealer ship and they confirmed the 2/32 tread depth variation limit.

Sounds a bit like the Princess and the pea. I'm running brand new Contis on the rear and 50% worn Pilots on the front with no issues. I'll replace the fronts this winter if we get a lot of snow though.
