Driver's Power Seat Problem.

I pushed the lever to adjust the seat back and to no avail. The headrest does not also move, BUT, the seat bottom moves forward and backward.

I have removed the door panels and did reconnect the plug, because I remember them working last week. I did however pull each and every fuse individually to make sure they weren't blown. Performed a xenon retrofit and didn't know the headlamp fuses are on the drivers side dash panel. Anyway, is there a way to "reset" the seat? I've read on the C-class forum something about an Exit feature. I would also asume that since the seat bottom works the plug is connected properly behind the door panel and that the seat motors are powered under a single fuse, rather than individually. I depressed the memory presets and the seat backing and headrest still did not move.... Any ideas guys?

Snapped cable or cogs? (Just a guess).

Benz Jul 26, 2003 03:52 AM

Check this before buying any parts.....You have 4 bolts on the back of your seat...Take all 4 bolts off and remove it....Check all your wires and make sure they are all connected....You will see a connection to your headrest and the rest of the seat....Just follow the wires to the connector.

Hope this is onyl the prob...its an esay fix if it is hehe.

Best of luck...let us know how it goes

I thought that for a second, but there is no noise, absolutely nothing when I depress the seat back or headrest switch.

Benz, when removing the seat back, where are those bolts. I haven't looked at the seat yet, and I'm assuming you don't mean the bolts that hold the seat to the car.

Go into your back seats and look at the seat which is having the problem....There are 2 bolts top right and left and 1 on bottom left and right..Once those are taken off it pulls off and you will see wires...follow them to the connectors and make sure they are still attached.

Im not talking about taking the seat out, only the piece attached tot he back of the seat...Its not that big.

Let me know how it goes and if it was the prob.

Thanx Benz, I'll try to take a look at it today sometime if I get a chance.

Inspect the Correct fuse first ......at the Main Fuse Box......Then
I Would Test the Seat Motors to determine What Part Is Defective
Use a 12v test lite to see if the Switch is Giving power to the seat motor.. (WITHOUT REMOVING THE SEAT)If NO Power to the seat motor with the seat switch depressed in the position Chances are the Seat Switch IS defective!

The W210 E Class Does NOT have The Exit feature as on the C Class

Re: Re: Driver's Power Seat Problem.

If after debugging, you find out that your seat switch is defective, let me know, since I have a spare seat switch (driver side), and will let it go at price substantially bellow dealer price

hey guys, i am having a similar problem. i have a 99 e320 4matic and the drivers seat won't move back on the track when using the seat controls. it does however move when using the preset buttons. because of this, i have eliminated the idea that it is just a loose connection. the track is not obstructed either. also, i am able to use the other seat controls to move the seat around, it just won't move back unless the preset is used. thanks in advance, raky...

Move it all the way forward, then it will go all the way back.

Thanks to all...
Had the same seat problem with my 1997 E300 and all the way foward then all the way back worked.
It must get a memory glitch in it and not want to move back over time.
Thanks again. You saved me a trip to the dealer...
Great forum!

My E320 driver's seat does not tilt. It goes back and forth. It goes up and down. Passenger seat works fine. Is the tilt a separate motor, switch or other? Any ideas appreciated.

SuperChargerE55 Mar 21, 2016 01:57 AM

Fixed

Well fixed mine yesterday.
Seen a lot if hints and guides tried them all except, raised headrest all the way then hold and keep the button pressed about 10 sek
Did the trick for me really weird hasn't worked since I bought it :)
Have tried jiggleing a bit with the wires now I'm not a big fan of pulling wiress without a good reason, specially not on this car :)

Fixed happy everything works again

I have similar problem on 99 W210 E320 - the driver seat moves FWD only. Long story short, I took the cushion out, then removed the motor that moves the seat fwd and backward and the switch will move it the motor both directions, but once I but the motor back on tracks it moves FWD only. I'm confused the tracks are clean, fuses all good, I have new seat module that is giving me the same result. What else can I try?

SuperChargerE55 Jun 6, 2016 04:55 AM

try this

Have ignition on, sit down in the seat press and hold aprox 10 seconds try now,,
is there absolutely no reaction at all?
No clicks or?
Try have someone hold the button and bang on on the motor carefully, else it can only be the motor..
Was my local AMG guy showing me this on a brand-new 2016 model, motor can get stuck. Mine got stuck again the other day but found the switch I really need to press it hard :( then it started working again...

ahmedhossame Jun 6, 2016 09:09 AM

I tried what you mentioned and it didn't change anything.

When I move the seat adjuster button I hear the motor clicks for both directions.
I noticed that my battery is low on amps, could that be the reason there is no juice to push the motor against racks resistance. Manually I was able to remove the motor and hammer on the tracks to bring them to backward position.

Keep in mind I have disassembled the cushion from the seal, so I have everything exposed for diagnosis
