Remote control on an earlier W210

I have 2 keys that the remote controls don't work anymore.

What are my options to replace the remote?

Will the stealer sell only the remote and I can put the blade key inside it?

thanks in advance

My remotes stopped working just this last year. At first I thought it was a battery issue, but after replacing the battery, the remotes still weren't working. Instead of buying a new key from the dealer...I purchased a viper alarm system with pager and keyless entry. The range is WAAAAAy better than the OEM key fob. you can do remote start too. Was installed for 200 bucks.

Dealer will need you to bring the car down to the dealer to purchase a new key. The ebay ones wont work.

If they are the original keys, they are not made anymore. The dealer can get you a new fancy chrome trimmed key for about $250 (varies by dealer). The metal key will not fit but a new one will come with the new key. You may not need to bring the car in but you'll need to prove ownership to buy a key. Some dealers claim to need to program but that's not needed anymore. Call a few local dealers and compare prices.

I got the new chrome key a few years ago. I just had to fax them proof of ownership and the key worked right out of the box.

Did you try this

Synchronizing System:
The system may have to be resynchronized,
if the transmitter is
without voltage for several minutes.
To synchronize system, aim transmitter
eye (2) at inside rear view mirror
receiver and briefly press transmit
button (1) twice. Within approx. 30
seconds, insert key in steering lock and
turn it to position 2.
The infrared remote control should
once again be operational.

(from the manual.

Greetings from Holland,

Rinus

Thank you for all the input and responses ... I actually messed up the remote controls and have to be repaired...I just thought that it will be easier to replace the remotes since I've got 2 nice and working blade keys

Hello everyone
I have a simple issue with my key/remote 1996 E320 (w210) here, I replaced the car battery few days ago,, I noticed yesterday that when I click the remote to lock or unlock the doors that red and the green lights under the rear view mirror is flashing for about 30 seconds, I am not sure what is going on? I replaced the remote batteries and nothing new the flashing red and green still happening every time I use the remote (THEY FLASH TOGETHER) ...
Any idea what do I need to do or look for??
Thank you all

I second FlatlineEF9. My daughter installed a Viper alarm/remote start/keyless system last year for $200.00. She says it works perfectly.
