replacing a SAM module

This is a question related to https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...craziness.html ...

I see on eBay that I can pick up a whole new left front SAM unit for ~$50.

A diagnostic around here seems to run in the $60 - $80 range.

Is the left front SAM something that can just be swapped out? ... or does that need to get programmed specifically for the vehicle? What do people usually charge for that?

Unless it is coming from the same VIN characteristics it must be coded to the car.

Remember the coding can't be done buy any yocome's diagnostic equipment unless it is equal to factory---is the 60-80 usd factory or equal??

Also remember that the diagnostics takes some time the real time will be spent by you trying to make sure you connected everything up correctly---then the car goes for coding, therefore two trips because any mechanic in his right mind is not going to wait for you to correctly reconnect the SAM and then do the coding!!
