relate bas/esp to cruise, turn sig. and a/c
Dear All,
Dealer says my bas/esp light relates to some vacuum system on the transmission. I know about the brake-light switch and have changed it out in the past. My car's an '01 4-matic wagon with 314,000 miles (gas).
In the mornings the light is not on. In the evenings it's usually on. Sometimes the cruise control, turn signals and a/c goes out when the light's on. For some weird reason, I found if I push on a very select spot to the left of the radio (padded area of the console), the three systems return (light stays on).
It's weird. Any clue what's under the console that would restore function to my systems?

p.s., I love my car!

If it was me - with the electrical connections running thru the ignition cylinder/switch - make sure the locking ring that holds the ignition cylinder is tight

as it turns out, it is my ignition switch. Nothing that a rubber band to the air-conditioning vent won't cure. You see, there must be a short, but when I push the key to the right, the short goes away. Rubber band keeping my pushing finger available for driving.
I'm a bit intimidated by the ignition switch. Apparently, there are all sorts of anti-theft measures in such replacement and it'll run to big number$!
Rubber bands are cheap!
Car is at 322,000 miles.

I had to replace my brake light switch recently. I now get the ESP light on at least once in the morning when applying the brakes, additionally the ABS light comes on, researching what to do. I know something is shorting somewhere because I can't find power to my right front parking light, fuse is ok, just can't find any power to the light it self.

Well if this helps anyone, I was told there is no inline fuse to the parking lights, well as it turns out, I bought a new light socket for the parking light and it came with an inline fuse. I had to rewire the headlight and found the inline fuse for the light on the old wiring, it was melted and appeared burned out. So if you don't know why the parking light is not working, and you have a good fuse in the dash and a good light bulb, this is probably the culprit. I installed a new OEM brake light switch. This solved my problem with the BAS light coming on when applying the brakes, however, after 3 weeks, it came on again while applying the brakes. I will have to get the vehicle scanned.
