Clutch fan swap to electric?
Hey everyone,
I have a 98 E320 as my daily driver. I also have a 99 that's basically a parts car. The clutch fan I see starting to go on my 98 and my 99 has an electric fan setup. I was wondering if their is a way that I can convert my 98 to an electric setup using whatever I may need from my 99. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

You would need to swap over a lot of things, and there would be coding involved.
It can be done, but isn't simply plug and play. Even if you brought the entire harness and everything from the donor car, you'd still need to program the M/E and such to work the fan.
I'd suggest putting a new fan clutch on the car and not worrying about it. Or switching to an aftermarket fan controller but that brings it's own set of negatives.

Aftermarket fan controller might not be that difficult, but 99 has design with single fan behind radiator, when 98 has smaller electric fans in front and engine-driven fan behind.
Would you leave front fans for AC operation?
I would also compare the radiator. Could be that 99 has bigger radiator (more rows)?

i did this conversion in my audi, what i did was used a straight kill switch so when the switch is on the fan stays on all the time no mater the temperature worked great for me. i used a spal 12v fan lound as hell tho..
