Engine idles to 2,000rpm on start. shift into gear and it goes back to normal
2001 E320 which when started the rpm hits 2,000 while its on parking.. if I switch into another gear it goes back to normal... but stalls and turns off. I put it in parking then turn ignition off, turn it back on and it still goes up to 2000rpm but this time it wont turn off.. Just seems like it want to turn off if I hit a stop sign or a red light until the car warms up... once I accelerate while at a complete stop (with the break pressed) the car seems normal and does not shake like it wants to turn off.. also on the highway the car runs like a champ!
A friend of mine said it could be "Idle Air Control" happened on sunday morning.. so far no check engine has popped out.. Any suggestions ?

Out Of Control!!
Your friend may be correct as the issue seems to be in the idle control circuit and ole polak joe may say no problem easy fix--it's only going to be easy if the idle control circuit is tested because there are more than five sensors that the ECU looks to for data to control the idle----could also be the pedal position sensor, could be bla bla---do it right and get it diagnosed!
