Is replacing steering wheel a big deal...
maybe if one could find a wheel from a junked e55 it might work.
my main concern wold be if the airbag will function properly after replacing the steering wheel.
and its not that tuff to DIY.
I have found that performance products have good deals,,,plus steve the eurofella might do better...Anytyhing under 500 is good.

i didn't mean thick spokes......i meant a thicker wheel itself, like the E55 has with the ridges at 10 and 2 oclock.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

is there anything to be worried about as far as airbag issues. i do want the airbag to work if ever needed
that's the design i'm looking for and it doesn't need to have wood on it.
i was stepping out of bob's steak and chop house (good ny strip) here in dallas tonight and saw a new black one at the valet. does 2003 also have the v8 kompressor?

As for the wheel, it is not stock. It is a wheel made by MP Design in Germany. There are several vendors that sell the wheel in just about any color and specification. The best price I have seen thus far is from Performance Products in Van Nuys, CA. www.performanceproducts.com
The wheel is the "Sport" model which has perforated leather along with the thicker ergonomic grip.
They also have a "Ergonmic" model which is the same however has standard non perforated leather with the same grip.
i went to mp designs website. i coudn't find the steering wheels on performance products site.

They seem to make a lot of wheels for various models and years.
The wheel is actually a new addition to Performance Products. I saw it in their new Spring catalog. Performance Prodcuts webpage doesn't have a lot of information about them yet. You may want to call Performance Products.
thanks...i think they make those only for 2000+ models.

W140 (not sure, need to double check if it fits) - looks similar to Jimmy's Brabus wheel that uses the original airbag:
