Question Seat issue. Need an advice

Hi, Benz family

My front seat has an issue. It wasn't going forward and neither back, it goes down but not up. I took me seat out, cleaned all rails and moving parts, lubricated every moving part. Found out that motor responsible for forward and back movement was shot so I replaced the motor and verified that it is working. With direct power every position was working, forward, back, up down, tilting and etc. So being happy about it, I installed it back.

Now it goes back but no forward, goes down but not up. But rails are cleaned, and all motors are working with direct power.

What you guys suggest to do? Is it something wrong with seat control module, or seat control on the door? I wanna know your ideas before I jump and take the seat out again or remove whole door panel.

Same symptoms on my '99; it was the seat adjustment switch. Be aware when you pull the door panel, you'll need industrial adhesive and C-clamps to put it back together because it is going to pull apart. Look for this:

and buy about ten of these because they break also...

The trim tool kit comes in handy. The door panel will still fall apart but it is still easier to remove.

Addendum:
The photo is of the rear door panel but it applies to the front door panel as well. The black plastic pieces around the perimeter are where the door fastener clips mount. The black plastic pieces will pull off of the panel. You will need industrial cement (go to your local big-box store; Lowe's or Home Depot) to glue them back on. The upper trim piece may also pull off so you will need to glue it on and C-clamp it on until it cures (less than an hour). Be prepared and you can have your car back to full operational capability in a day.

@bbirdwell

I guess switch is okay. I tried two different switches, one from driver side. Both showed the same symptoms

If rails are clean and lubed, check each of 3 motors, if motors are working pull out seat control switch from the door panel and clean it, if wont help replace your seat control module which is under the seat.
