Rust on rear doors (alert).
I have just checked under the rear door rubber seals on E320 estate(wagon, kombi etc) and I have some serious rust. This applies to both rear doors. I currently live in Germany and will be taking my car back to the local dealer as soon as possible next week.
My car is Oct 1998 and always garaged and cleaned etc.
I would encourage all other owners to check too.
I will post the outcome as and when.
Regards,
M.
Lets see what next week brings.

My W210 has Never been in the Snow ..California Car..Bought New!
Detailed Weekly
Will be taking in to MB to see what is up, the car is a 2001 E43.
I am inland in Ca, but the car is from the beach in SC, so maybe that could be a partial factor...but 3 years?
Something to keep an eye on I suppose...dang, I thought higher end cars were supposed to be of better quality. Whats up w/that?
At least it was discovered while still under warranty.
Heard another place to check was under the rear tail-lights...anyone else?
Thanks all!
I had found two doors with rust spots under the seals (about 1/4" long) & brought it into the MB "House of Imports" in Buena Park, CA for service. (also had that rear window fixed...but that is a different issue)
Well, they not only confirmed the spots that I found, but stated that they found other spots on all four doors!! (I had only looked on top, maybe underneath they found the others?) Anyway, they ordered four new doors for me...gratis! This surprised me as the spots were really not that bad...unless the ones they found were worse then the ones I had seen...??? am picking up the car later tonight...will have to check it out..
Also stated that the job would take about a week to do, so I would be getting a loaner car as well.
Now that is how it is supposed to go at a MB dealer!
After reading all these posts on problems others had, I thought I would give a little glimmer of light to others not to lose hope in their dealers...there are some good ones out there!
Since I didn't purchase the car from them, I was not sure how the service would be...& so far it has be EXCELLENT!
The gentleman in the repairs dept stated that this rust problem is not that common in CA, but his manager knew all about it & they are not even going to attempt to repair it as it is rusting from underneath the paint due to not being primed effectively prior to painting.
So, if anyone out there sees some rust under their seals...TAKE IT IN while under warranty.

RE: RUST!
Update on Rust repairs
Well My Wagon has been at the House of Imports Body shop for OVER Six weeks and The car is still NOT Correct..
The Replacement Doors are Wavey dont match the rest of the car.and the car is covered with Overspray!
Compound in the sunroof seal/door seals and most all gaps.
This is Substandard for any shop let alone a MB Dealer Body shop
I Would NOT Recommend The House of Imports Body Shop !!!
I have Called MBUSA/BBB/BAR/and Will get a Estimate from a REAL body shop to have the wagon repaired..the Correct way... Then File Small Claims...What a Joke !!!
That is crazy!
They had my car for 2 weeks & there was overspray on one fender with clear coat over dust (!) (He tried to rub out a swirl mark & discovered that there was clear coat over it!!) They took it back did it right with no other problems... They even fixed a few dings I had on the front bumper & trunk lid, gratis...
I dealt with Dave...if you want his cell phone, let me know & I can pm or email it to you.
The repairs did take longer than expected & they grumbled over the cost of the rental C240 during that time...but other than that I did not have any problems & the car looks as good as new.
Maybe since my car is white the color is easier to match? I really don't know...sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with them. Considering the price of these cars you'd think they'd get it right the 1st time....& if not, at least fix it & not try to pass it off & hope you don't notice! Honestly!
Maybe the MB in Laguna Nigel (? ~off the 5 fwy) would be an option for you? I have heard good things about their service....????
It is bad enough to have to deal with this issue as it stands...but to run into problems on top of it REALLY BITES!
Hope they make it right for you!
