2001 E430 Multiple Misfire Issue
Recently my 2001 E430 4-Matic has been experiencing multiple misfires of cylinders 3, 5, and 8. At first the only misfire i had was the cylinder 5. Shortly after scanning the car that was the only code i had. i believed the injector was getting gunked up and not being able to spray as good or at all so i decided to buy new injector filters, O rings, and Caplets (mind you that the last gut that had it had metal washers on the injectors instead of caplets?). Regardless, no matter how well i cleaned out the injectors, the cylinder 5 decided to still misfire. I had even swapped over a working injector from another injector and the engine stayed the same. Now a couple months later i have three misfire codes and a multiple random misfire code. Could it be spark plugs? Coil Pack? Wiring Harness? I have no clue as where to start so i come to you guys to give me advice on what i should do next.
Sincerely,
Benzooo
I had a problem with misfires when I pressed the accelerator more than halfway. I changed the fuel filter and while I was working on that I noticed that the fuel pump was leaking while the engine was running. I then replaced the fuel pump. After that I didn't have a misfire problem. Not sure which one was the culprit.

btw, what did you use to cleanout the injectors? mileage?
This "chunks" can cause added backpressure on that side(s) - diagnosed by putting up on a rack - running at operating temp - rear exit front cat temp should be significantly higher than temp at the front entrance to the cat - which testifies that cat is still functioning - followed by a "rubber mallet" test to see what kindof loose rattles are in the front and rear cat. If rear cat is diagnosed with chucks - it gets cut out - cleaned out - and welded back in. If front cat has rattles - which is normal - see if exhaust at tailpipe on both sides it about same exhaust pressure.

Nasty dirty and rich!
I don't think they've been replaced in a long time! 174,445 Miles and everything seems to be pretty edgy

2nd Question - have you "checked" the cats yet ? 1st check - on a lift - engine running - engine at operating termperature IR thermometer - exit temp at the back/exit of the front cat should be higher than entrance/temp front of the cat - which shows front cats operating. 2nd test - engine off - use a rubber mallet to tap/bang the bottom each rear cat listening for "chunk rattle" of loose stuff in the rears - you can gently tap each front cat - usually there will be "chunk rattle" which can be OK. It's the rear's - which have a mesh screen in them - chicks can get caught there leading to blockage/added back pressure that side .
