Engine problems
Hi.
before you flame me i have searched around and found some answers, but i'd like to explain my particular case. my ride is a W210 1996 E320 with around 90k miles. the car is immaculate and has never given me a single problem... but recently when im in start and stop traffic or at traffic lights, when i want to accelerate from a halt, the car does not seem to accelerate, then past 3000 or 4000 revs, it accelerates well. it is very annoying, it seems like im driving a scooter at times. idles are sometimes very rough, at times it almost stalls but just fluctuates a lot (from 1000 revs to below 500)
....
now i guess its the MAS sensor which has gone round the twist, but could it be anything else given its mileage?

I have the same car and I have had similar problems.
Mine turned out to be a bad ignition coil the first time and then about 6 months later, it was a similar problem but this time the spark plug connector. This car has 3 coils and it could be a problem with one of them. You should get the car connected to a computer that will give you a better indication of what the problem is.

A bad coil might set the check engine light and fault codes that could be read. If you do not have any fault codes or CE light on yet then I would suspect the MAF or MAS starting to fail or possibly an O2 sensor. The Mass Air Flow Sensor affects the low RPMs and idol more than full throttle so that sounds like the symptoms you are having.
