98 E320 doesn't shift

hi, just bought a 98 E320 with the check engine light on. When engine was cold it shifted just fine, but after about 10 minutes of driving in a 90+ degree temp it stopped shifting. I've tried various gears, but no change. Any ideas, before I tow it to my friendly MB dealer????

dealer replaced the electronic speed control / or contact in the transmission and it's fine. $200 part, $400 labor.
