99 E320 AC....Aux fan help.

Bought an E320 last year however never really drove it in intense heat. Just discovered the AC would blow warm and then gradually cool. Looking at the car there is no dual aux fan on the condensor, just one on the radiator. I'm pretty sure it's suppose to have one right? If so, can someone kindly tell me (maybe a pic/diagram) where the plug to the aux fan comes from? I tried to locate it around the condenser radiator and driver side headlight but I cannot find a plug anywhere.

That's how mine has always looked also. And the A/C is weak compared to a modern Japanese A/C. I've had it worked on 2-3 times and it seems to be working as designed. It's just not up to Southeastern heat-n-humidty. Being 24 years old doesn't help matters. Use the 'recycle' button - it helps considerably.

Thanks ...looks to be by design after some research. The last of the w210 only has the 1 fan. One thing that I noticed is the EVAP core temp being 120-130....going to try and changing that sensor and see if it changes. No stored codes in the system either.

Did you happen to find anything else about this? I just replaced an AC in my 2000 e320 (W210) and it seems to be overheating (I see smoke coming from the AC location after a bit). AC is blowing very cold air. Like a freezer. So not expecting vacuum leak.

I just have the one radiator fan as well, like you. No aux fans. The car dies after about 20 mins. Radiator fan seems to be kicking on. Wondering what my next steps should be. Maybe sensors I should check next.

Just did more research. Maybe my condenser is a bit to dirty too. I'll try cleaning it lightly with my garden hose. Also, I'm going to check for AC vacuum leaks in condenser or lines. Will post more after my findings.

For me it ended up being the EVAP core tenpeture sensor underneath the steering column.

Measured it via the hidden display functions in the HVAC panel.

Thanks, I'll try that. What should the HVAC core temp range be?

Be sure to monitor for proper sensor operation. In my car, the evap temp sensor would read properly then suddenly jump to 138*. Replaced sensor and all was well until the compressor gave it up a few months later...

FWIW, the E55 has dual fans in front of the condensor plus a clutched fan on the water pump shaft. Photo below is when the dual fans were out of my car to install a new drive belt for the driven fan.

I stand corrected but I believe anything between 42 and 45 F is acceptable anything lower will cause icing
