ADAC Breakdown Statistics for 2004: Mercedes Models Demonstrate Their Reliability

Stuttgart, Germany, April 28, 2005
Mercedes-Benz is one of the winners in this year’s compilation of breakdown statistics by the German motorists’ association ADAC. The brand’s passenger cars received top marks in three automotive categories.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class was the winner in the “Lower Mid-Range” category, making it the most reliable compact car on Germany’s roads, according to the breakdown statistics compiled by ADAC. The average breakdown rate for the 2004 models of the A-Class was only 2.3 per thousand.
Equally impressive was the performance of the M-Class, which won top honours in the “Off-Roader” category. The average breakdown rate for the 2004 models of the M-Class was only 2.5 per thousand.
The experts at ADAC were especially pleased by the models of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the S-Class, whose extremely low breakdown rates won them top spots in the “Upper Mid-Range/Luxury Class” category.

If you are at the wheel of an Audi A2, an Audi A6 or an Audi A4 Cabriolet, you are driving the most reliable vehicles in their respective classes. This is the conclusion of the ADAC's breakdown statistics, which the automobile club has now published. Audi is therefore the only German manufacturer to take first place in the statistics for three categories.

The Audi A6 encountered the least problems in the highly prestigious field of the premium segment. This put the A6/S6 model series ahead of all its competitors – including the German competition in the premium segment - for the third time in a row in the chase for the reliability Oscar. "The A6 demonstrates that the Ingolstadt quality offensive is actually bearing considerable fruit," confirms the ADAC.

In the "Small-Car Class" the A2 left all its competitors standing – and not only all the German cars but also the Japanese, which have had a firm hold on the top spots in terms of reliability for many years.

For the first time, the A4 Cabriolet scored a victory in the sports car category, sending its competitors in a field dominated by German products away to lick their wounds. Second place in the medium-sized category was taken by the A4 model series, making it the best-placed German car.

Audi kicked our ass.

no they didn't. audi won in DIFFERENT classes from mercedes.

Mercedes: Lower Mid-Range, Off-Road and Upper Mid-Range/Luxury.

Audi: Premium, Small Car, and Sports Car

Good job to Merc: the fact that M-class is most reliable kicks the carpet from under those who've been bashing it for so many years

Good news, but what does breakdown mean?...unable to move at all and needing to get towed in?

Good news gettting out!

I am glad to see some data based on later models than the early 2003 E Class and 1998 ML being used to evaluate MB. Mercedes bashers are losing their "data base of old information" and will have to sooner or later admit that things are better and will only get better yet with the new ML, R Class and S Class.

Congrats to MB and keep up the good work :y
