What's the E280??
 

Hi all, just saw the E280 on the Bruneian Mercedes page. What engine is that? I've never previously heard of this car anywhere before (I thought it went E200 -> E240 -> E270CDI -> E350 -> E500 -> E55) Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Today, the full E-class model range is:

Petrol: E 200 Kompressor, E 280, E 350, E 500, E 55 AMG
Diesel: E 200 CDI, E 220 CDI, E 280 CDI, E 320 CDI

The Petrol 280 is a new developped 3 liter V6 engine with 231hp and 300Nm and was introduced with the latest facelift of the C-class.
The diesel 280 and 320 share the same engine (a 3liter V6), but with different motormanagements, giving the 280 CDI 190hp and 400 Nm. The 320 CDI has 224pk and 510Nm (although, in the new S-class, hp will be more).

Also, the previous E 280 CDI (with the old 3.2 liter 6-in-line) has been taken out of production. ;)

edit: I forgot to mention that the E350 has a different engine than your S350L. Whereas the W220 S-class 350 used the 3.7 liter, 245hp V6 (also available in the SL) , the E350 uses the new 3.5 liter 272hp V6 (same as in the M-class, SLK, C)

aaah icic, thanks for the info, mbman002. so that means no more E240? well, just in time to change cars, then :D i've to get rid of it by the end of next month due to new legislation in M'sia.

damn, i'm tempted to get the E280. wonder how much it'd cost since it's not available in M'sia, officially, yet.

I just changed from E240 to E280...Very big difference in terms of power. It costs about usd 89,000 here in Jakarta.
