Silvered bulbs

I haven't been happy with the dark blue look of the PIAA extreme white city light bulbs in the daylight. I am also unhappy with the look of the amber bulbs in the clear corners. I found and ordered a pair of silvered super white bulbs for the city lights and silvered amber for the clear corners. The price is right as a test to see how the city lights and clear corners look. The site I found the bulbs is: http://superlumination.com/194.htm

Where did you get the clear side markers from, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Jim,

i just want to know that does the Silvered bulb lit brighter or longer distance than the original one? Does the MB original Xeron light make any difference with the Silvered bulb light in the light color? Are they both in white color?

Thank you!

Bon

I purchased the clear corners on eBay. There was a thread a few months ago about a fellow on eBay that was selling these. The silvered bulbs seem about as bright as the original amber corners with clear bulbs.

The city (parking) lights may be a little more blue when lit than the PIAA extreme white ones and not quite as bright. I think they will be close enough to the headlights - at least a lot better than the yellow looking lights that came with the car. My big complaint was the dark blue looking bulb when it wasn't lit.

The SilverStar 1157 turn signal bulbs are as bright as the original amber bulbs. If you look up the turn signal bulbs for the W211, many manufacturers indicate the 1156 bulb is the correct bulb. The 1156 is the turn signal bulb for the W210 not the W211.

Looks good! Did the lenses just pop off (pry w/screwdriver) or did the whole rub strip have to come off. (I reached under, no way to get it behind). How did you get into the city light? I can get the harness/bulb-holder unplugged but the bulb sits in the housing stuck.

The corner lights are removed by prying the back of the light. The front of the light has a hook that goes behind the bumper and the back has a spring like protrusion. The removal is poorly described on page 338 in the '03 operator's manual. It is preferable to use something that won't scratch the bumper trim strip. I used a plastic shim.

Page 337 & 338 describe the replacement of the "standing lamp" bulb. After removing the socket, I just wiggled the bulb back and forth and it pulled out of the socket.

I figured the lights in the bumper was one of those deals with a pry on one and hook on the other...just looks way too easy to chip/damage if you don't know what you're doing. On the front parking lamps I initally did try "twisting" the bulb holder off...But instead it comes off fairly easily straight off without twisting. The problem is the bulb separates and stays on the headlight housing....I'll figure it out. Just being careful because if that bulb drops into the reflector, I'm SCREWED and I may have to remove the entire headlight off the car to fish the bulb back. BTW Your chromed 194s are hyper-white (light-blue) color right? In the picture it looks very dim. I'm assuming it looks significantly better than before matching more of an whitish HID hue rather than yellowish like stock?

Rockyfeller,

It sounds like you unplugged the socket of the parking lights leaving the socket and the bulb in the light. The socket rotates about 45 degrees to unhook it and then pulls back. The rotation is counter-clockwise when viewed from the back of the light. The bulb is so small that it can't stay in the light by itself. The silvered bulbs are called "blue" and aren't nearly as bright as the PIAA hyper-white bulbs but show up nearly as blue-white as the PIAA bulbs. The clear OEM bulbs are what look good in the daytime but show up as pale yellow when lit.
