Is $250 a fair price for steering wheel service?

My salesman hooked me up a wooden steering wheel at cost. He said there was nothing he can do about discounting the instal.... they quoted me $250 to install the new steering wheel and was wondering if this was a fair price around the market?

Thanks.

Hell no. It takes about 30 minutes or less to install the steering wheel and transfer the existing airbag.

I was quoted $75 for labor at my dealer when I was looking into upgrading to the wood steering wheel.

What dealer are we talking about here in Orange County. I go to Laguna Niguel, what about you?

It is something you could do on your own, but given that the airbag will have to be disconnected I would not attempt to do this on my own. If the dealer blows the airbag its his fault then not yours. Airbags can cost from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.

I was quoted $150 by the dealer. BTW, out of curiosity I asked the dealer how much is the airbag: $925.

Well, simply tell them you'll pay actual time and sit with the car.

I agreee, tell them to get off the crack pipe!

I got the wheel at cost $485.... and found another local dealer who said they would charge 1 hour of labor $106.... so I think I will just go with them.... I still can believe Fletcher told me 4-6 hours.... ha ha

I replaced mine myself. At the time, my dealer quoted met $300 which was ridiculous.

It is actually pretty easy. One word of caution, however, is to not turn on the car when the air bag is disconnected since that will show up as and SRS error. It that occurs, then you will have to have the system reset.

Do a search here, and there are some threads on how to change the steering wheel here.

word to the wise.. I have the wood wheel in my Volvo and here in Phoenix whet gets hot, that wood is untouchable! I would not be so quick to throw away the leather wheel incase you decide like me, that wood is not as practical.

i actually tried it myself except i could not removed the one electrical connector. Next day took it to the dealer and they only charged $75 to change and switch over the shifting buttons also; a good deal in my opinion......
