I'm Concerned
 

Hi all. Proud owner of a W211 CDI 05. I've got a problem that's making me nervous. In the past three weeks I've smelled a strong, very strong diesel odour that hasn't gotten better with servicing at the local MB center. The SA has stated thta this was not a fuel line leak but a pump seal leak? I'm going to work on getting the service tickets as I had them deliver and pick up the car at my office with a rental swap.

Now, it's been in two times with the same problem but no resolve. Any ideas. The car has been bullet proof until now ( 21500 miles). There has been no drop in oil readings ( how accurate is that anyway) and no,puddles on the garage floor. They also said the insulation was soaked with diesel. I hope this helps with the diagnosis. As soon as I get more info I'll post it ASAP. In the mean time , any ideas, suggestions, diagnoses?

Get that bad boy bought back and get another one if they cant fix it the 3rd time around.

thanks guys ur very quick. I'm starting to feel uneasy as it may need extensive repairs if this past service doesn't fix it. I'll PM mbjim. I'm hoping it's only a minor thing as I really love this car.

Yeah I understand his car did this and couldn't be fixed.. he ended up going into an E350.. odd that they just didn't give him a new CDI.. surely it was a fluke..as 1000's of them run fine.

They couldn't find out what was wrong with mine so it's gone. If you want the details I will PM you

MBJIM, please do. I'm almost embarrassed as I "brag" about the CDI all the time.

The pump (I believe) is right at the front of the motor, see if you can smell anything from it specifically.. but either way, PLEASE keep us posted on what it turns out to be, and I hope it's just something that has a simple fix.
