As far as a safety concern, that’s bull. There are many other things that would revert your eyes from the road to the MFD or elsewhere. Example: looking at the MFD in order to set a speed for cruise control, looking at the MFD to select a certain track on a playing cd, looking at the radio head to input a freq manually.

After 3 years with this car I would just like it fixed.

In as much as you make a good argument, DC/MB is actually agreeing that it could be a safety matter – just one of the points listed in my initial inquiry as directed by membership concern here on the forum. MB is also aware that many other things revert your eyes from the road and as such, suggested VCS installation (with or without phone) to circumvent this.

And yes, after three years we all would just like it fixed. I welcome any intelligent input as to how best we w211 & c219 owners can resolve being slighted of this functionality.

Depends on how united we are as a front..

Konig has been fighting this one for while, but most people don't get involved in aiding his cause.. they just want to come on line here and complain, w/o voicing their view to MBUSA and adding to the chorus of customers with complaints..

Email them... go ahead.. mention the crap NAV while your at it.

I received a letter from MBUSA in response to my JDP inquiry to retrofit the ability to scan presets. They’re saying no such retrofit is available. In effect, answering a question. But remember, although MBUSA has a TAC (Technical Assistance Center), which is basically ex techs that now work as MBUSA specialists, they really have nothing to do with Germany and as such would not and could not fulfill our request. However, what they have done is officially stated in writing that a problem does exist for their customer base and Stuttgart needs to address it.

Good work Dan..

I never take what the guys at their "tech" department to be a final word.. 1/2 the time they contradict themselves..

One weak reason Stuttgart gave for not being able to update IC software was because IC coding is denied to dealerships due to possible mileage manipulation. However, MBUSA recently released a bulletin allowing all dealerships to set new ICs. As of 11/21/05 parts will begin shipping un-programmed ICs when ordered by the dealers. Coincidence I wonder if "our" efforts had anything to do with this and if it’s a step in the right direction in preparation for an upcoming software fix?
