Brilliant Silver Fender...

Guys,

here's my situation -

Some ahole hit me in the parking lot on the front drivers side fender. No real paint damage, but a good dent [good enough to bother me]. They hit the part behind the front wheel and in front of the front door. I think the corner of their car clipped my fender.

Anyway, the car was bought in june. The 2 body shops i went to said live with it or repair the fender and in turn paint the door and hood (adjacent panels) to blend in the color match [one of those body shops is a MB certified shop]. I really don't want to do that.

I was thinking it would be great to get a factory painted brilliant silver and take my chances that its close...

any suggestions???

The car is too new to have color blend problems yet(due to fading ect). If they match the paint, it should look fine. I was told the same thing, but it ended up matching perfectly without and blending. I have a brillant silver Benz as well. Good luck to you, Im sure it will turn out fine.

The color match isn't the problem. When the metalic undercoat is sprayed on it creates a texture in the silver particles that won't be the same as the door panel. If only the fender is painted it will look different since the texture will reflect the light differently. The hood / fender line usually is enough of a demarkation so the hood does not need to be blended but the front door will need to have the fender paint blended into it.

Another option might be paintless dent removal. This does work but can leave a slight wrinkle appearance in the reflection of the repaied area.

Try to repaint as few good panels as necessary. I had my rear quarter repainted & it is just about as perfect as it can get not being done by a robot in the same batch as the whole car. The space between the door & fender is a natural break. You will have to lessen you critical eye a tiny, tiny bit, but a passer by or trade in apraiser will not know the difference.

Its too bad is so new, but now car of 3 years or so is pristeen, and perfect anymore, so by then it willl still be better than most old geezers trade in!

I agree. That would certainly be my first port of call.

I would try the paintless dent removal. They should be able to fix that with no problem. Good luck.

yes...

its becuause the guy who hit me pushed the fender in and there must be something at that point that kept it from going in, thus the dimple. under it you can barely notice but the fenders pushed in. Its amazing hte body shop i took it to got all of the other guys paint off - note it took a good 8-10" scrape from a bumper and the only paint that came off the car was on the front door strip about hte size of a dime.
