Has anyone changed the LED bulbs?

Many W211 owners have changed their turn signal bulbs, fog light bulbs, and city lights to more closely color-match their xenons. I have yet to find a way to replace the LED's in the side mirrors and tail lights. Do white LED's exist for our cars?

I remember somebody tried it and got the lamps out error on MFD. There are LED that will fit, but they draw very low currents which tricks the MFD to think there are problems.

If you want to give them a try, www.superbrightleds.com have all the sizes. BTW I believe the lights in side mirror are already LED.

Those are LEDs? Didn't know that..

I got LED tail lights (brake lights) so I know those are LED, but I never did know where else LED's were used.. I figured the 3rd brake light is, but you say the turn signals are also LED?

I think the attempt was on the front parking light (the one in the smaller oval).

Theoretically you can change any lightbulb to LED if there are no lamps-out detection mechanism. The package the LEDs into standard automobile bulbs so they are plug and play.

Thanks for the help thus far guys, but I am not trying to change regular bulbs to LED bulbs. My bulbs are currently LEDS, am I would like to switch the blinkers from orange LED's to white LED's.

Do you know how much work is involved with this?

Theoretically, you can put LED bulbs where regular incandescent bulbs are in the car as long as the sockets are the same, however, since LEDs use much less power, the MFD will show a burned out light. The way around this is to get a resistor and hook it up along with the LED bulb.

However, the taillight bulbs do not have regular sockets, they are al soldered on to a circuit board.

So you have already changed the yellow filament bulb to a yellow LED bulb? (Only the upper brake lights on the w211 LED Tail light Assembly are LED's, the rest of the assembly uses regular filament bulbs). If this is the case go to the aforementioned website and look for a white LED bulb... Also do you notice any problems with the LED's blinking fast?.. I tried a couple "multidirectional" LED's in my car and the light output was horrible.

I just learned something new...I didn't know the blinker in the tail light assembly was a regular bulb. If so, I would just do a simple swap of bulbs. Does anyone know how to access this bulb?

Thanks!

Like Steve and my post stated above, simple swap to LED will cause the lamps-out warning to appear.

You could add an inline resister to simulate the load. That website actually sells an resister intended for turn signals so they don't blink so fast. But will also trick the lamps-out detection.

Right, I understand this part of it now. Because of this, I don't think I'm going to try and swap out the side-view mirror LED's.

But someone stated that the rear blinkers are normal bulbs. If I swap out the orange bulb with a white bulb, it should not cause an error message, correct? Does anyone know how to access this bulb? And what size bulb it is?

Thanks

The rear blinker bulbs are actually white. There is an amber color transparent plastic that covers both blinker bulbs. Each rear blinker assembly has two bulbs.

Here is the problem; these new Mercedes bulbs are much smaller than normal and they are soldered on to a circuit board. This means that you can NOT put a bulb that has any kind of socket. Even if you could, then the LED assembly would NOT fit under the amber color plastic. Even when you have the LED taillights, only the Brake lights are LEDs.

If you want to get to the circuit board to change the whole board (the only way to change a light bulb), then you have to start by removing the whole taillight lens.

I dont know if this will help any, but when i changed my parking headlights to LEDs i used a 6 ohm load equilizer. The EQ stopped the blinking and the error or malfunction that occurs.
