I could use some sage advice here...
What really sealed the deal for me on Benz was my most recent experience at the dealership. I hit a bad pothole in my E320. The suspension was obviously damaged. I told the service tech this. I also told them I had purchased a new rim and it was at the parts counter for them to pick up.
- They never got my new rim.
- They never checked the suspension.
Not only did they TOTALLY IGNORE what I had told them to look at, they returned my car to me dirty and with plenty of excuses why they couldn't fix another problem.
I took the Benz to another dealer who...in 15 minutes had the suspension problems diagnosed.
If I pay 50K+ for a car, I shouldn't be treated like I am at a Kia dealership. Moreover, it takes 2 minutes to run a car through the car wash - no excuse for ever giving a car back to somebody filthy. Its one of the simplest things they can do to make the experience a little nicer. Heck I would even PAY $5 for the wash!!!!
...and if you live in an area where there aren't a bunch of convenient alternate dealerships to service your car, that should be figured into your decision to buy a particular brand in the first place.
I'd never buy an "orphan" anything if there werent reasonably close service/sales facilities even if I were assured it NEVER required service.

Write exactly what you just said to MBUSA, and i can promise you that dealership will be apologizing to you in a matter of days. It sounds like they have some poor employees, and they'd rather know about it than lose a customer.

And yes, I think you should judge a brand by the misdeeds of the dealer. A brand that allows idiots to sell their products is going to keep losing business. How else am I, the consumer, supposed to interact with the manufacturer? I can't buy their cars direct.
Like I said, I am pretty much done with Benz. Maybe my mind will change by June when my lease is up.
