Headlight doesn't turn off in auto mode

I recently had my windshield replaced. When I got it back, I noticed my headlight would come on at all times if left in auto mode, day or night. It does turn off at the off position, so I know it's not set to daytime running lights.

I am not sure if this problem is due to the windshield replacement, or just an concidence. I read somewhere the light sensor is in the same position as rain sensor (behind rearview mirror). If that's the case I'm going to raise hell with body shop. Can anybody confirm?

Thanks.

That is correct, confirm they used an OEM windshield... I see this often when aftermarket glass is used... < shrug >

Thanks for the reply Steve.

Yes they did use MB glass, since they couldn't find any aftermarket ones for W211.

Is the day/night mode on COMAND display also tied to this same light sensor? I notice it's behaving irradically as well.

Rain Light Sensor (RLS) controls intermittent wiping & automatic driving lights. They may have impaired this function. Check to see if there are any appearance faults (i.e.: blistering, etc.) in the area of the gluing surface. Due to the tolerances in the gluing process peeling may occur to cause a functional fault.

its under lighting in the service menu controls on the steering wheel. You currently have it on auto, and it needs to be set to manual.

Good call however, it was also mentioned that the COMAND day/night mode was erratic which is dependant on the RLS (looks forward to detect dark areas). Might have been two problems – DRL setting and RLS fault but then why would they mess with the setting to replace the windshield.

the DRL setting was the first thing I checked and that wasn't it. If that was on, your lights will be on even when you have your light switch turned to off. In my case problem only occured when it's in the AUTO position.

Yes this is what I inferred “why would they mess with the setting to replace the windshield” as if to say this couldn’t be the problem. Anyway, it’s fixed.
