Replacing rotors DIY? e500
But since we all love these engineering machines I figured I might as well get good at it since it looks like replacing these puppies very often is one of the side benefits of SBC. So DIY is the way to go from here on forward
I've searched the forum and found some very helpful info on a DIY for replacing the brake pads, but not much on the rotors.
Can anyone point me to a link or information on DIY for replacing the E500 rotors? Thanks in advance
If you DIY, here's an idea of parts prices (taken from www.allgermanparts.com):
For 2003 E500 --
Front disc -- Zimmermann, $66
Rear Disc -- Zimmerman, single disc $42, vented disc $54 (sport pkg?)
Front pads -- Pagid $87, Jurid $79
Rear pads -- no brand listed, $75
Parking brake shoes, Textar, $40

My job this week wasn't the MB it was my Powerstroke diesel changing tanny fluid and repair of 4x4 locking system. Whew,, that 's out of the way for a while.
Jim
1) Touch a door handle (with keyless go)
2) open a door
3) turn steering wheel -- if you have the car in the air you can trigger this by just working on the caliper.
4) have a person attempt to unlock a MB in the area that could make your car read a MB key in the vecinity.
The list goes on and on for about 4-5 more items but lets say you are working on the brake system and it goes to seat the pads. You will lose a finger. My tech was cool with just doing the brakes on the side for some cash and that is the best way to go about having a sbc car's brakes replaced.
My tech showed me his hand with a finger bent down and said unless you want to walk around like this I would not try to change the brakes on a W211 or R230 yourself. Hes not a guy trying to bill hours and instead hes a friend.
