Have You Had Problems With Your '06s or '07s?

Those who have been around here since the 211s came out know of the past problems with these cars from 2003 thru 2005. Has MB done a good job of cleaning the 06s & 07s up?

I know no car can be perfect, but do you feel they are now better than average in the reliability department? Ride & handling/safety aside can you wholehartedly reccommend them to your friends? Are they worth the price for the tri star? Are they back on track?

Mercedes is back on track, quality is up head over heels. Barry, best thing to do is go drive a 2007. You can feel the difference as soon as you enter it.

If you have read some of my threads on here... you would realize in fact how hard I drive my vehicle... No problems except an accident that wasnt my fault and a speaker outage that was, lol

Parents have 3k miles on a 06 which will be 1 year old in a few months.. So far the only time it was in the shop was to get the ipod kit installed and thats it. Well I take that back road side came to the house to replace a battery after a warning light flashed but the car was still able to start and be used. So far we are all impressed by it and looking to get another E but this time a E320 CDI bluetech.

I'm about to take my '06 E350 w/11K on its 4th trip to the dealer for excessively squeaky brakes and a shimmy when braking from high speeds. And my braking habits are normal, so it's not anything I've caused. My satellite radio often won't get a signal in clear weather in areas without any obstructions. The passenger headrest made an annoying rattle, though the dealer took it apart and fixed that. The transmission clunks pretty loudly into 2nd when cold, and I'm still not a fan of the annoying little noises the electronic brakes make...even though they're tame compared to the noises that a friend's '03 E320 made.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the car, though I'm not completely sold on Mercedes quality. It feels like a solid car, but not in the same bank-vault-solid league as my former '97 SL500 and '93 400E. I'd probably be driving a BMW 5-Series now if the current model 5 wasn't so terrible to look at, but I can't say that I regret getting the E350. My lease will be up in just over a year, and I'll probably consider an E63 AMG at that point if I don't get weak and fall into the SUV trap instead.

The shimmy is probably brake related due to rotor warping. Could have been caused by hard brake use when the car/brakes were brand new.
...and Sirius is launching another satellite. I don't know how that will help. (Probably not as much as more land based repeaters if these cars have antennas to pick up terrestrial repeaters).

But I notice that you'd buy another, so I guess I'd count you in the "satisfied" column.

The sat radio is not a mercedes issue its a sirius issue (no pun intened) they have sats that are moving around in an orbit so you will get signal very strong sometimes and weak others or none. Thats why I went with XM they have geostationary sats so you dont run into must of any signal problems also XM is supposed to have more repeaters than sirius.

orbits of sirius birds.

http://www.heavens-above.com/orbitdi...sp?satid=26390 ---- sat 1

http://www.heavens-above.com/orbitdi...sp?satid=26483 --- sat 2

http://www.heavens-above.com/orbitdi...sp?satid=26626 --- sat 3

I dont have the link to XM's but I think they launched the 4th one recently. The first 2 they sent up had defects from boeing and could not operate at full power for long so they shut half of each one down and moved the 2 broke sats together and launched a fixed one to take over the eastern side. Recently I think they launched the 4th one that has no defect and the XM-3 and XM-4 are transmitting with XM-1 and XM-2 offline as back ups. But the XM sats are made by boeing and are the most powerful communications satellites that you can buy and have a fixed orbit.

Definitely no hard braking of any kind here, and I've had the car since new. And yes, I'd consider myself in the "satisfied" column. The car has had its share of annoying issues, but I'm not the type to get wound up over them and probably wouldn't have fared any better with a new 5-Series and all of its electronic, glitch-prone madness.

Remind the Service Advisor to have The TECH inspect the TSB re your complaint...Its a Bushing Not a Brake rotor....That might be the Problem with Your car?

As The Techs dont read the TSBs....P-B-42.10/51d

BTW The brake squeak CAN be resolved via MB Brake paste...and the calipers cleaned and lubed...As I Have done several cars WITH the dreaded squeaky brakes...EVEN aftermarket pads can be made Quiet!

BTW my 2006 has been Great so far One Year and NO Visits to the dealer!

No problems with our '06.

It's an orders of magnitude better car than previous W124.

You're absolutely right...I didn't mention it above, but unlike the squeaking, the shimmy was fixed and has been perfect since. The solution was the bushings as you said, and I think they used the E55's bushings to solve the problem. As for the pads, they've done the paste lube/cleaning on the last 2 visits and it doesn't last very long. My salesman is going to talk to the service department about replacing the pads at this point at their expense.

Brake squeal - first 12 months/12,000 miles you’re entitled to new pads, front, rear, or both as required

Approaching 10,000km on my 07 CDI. Very satisfied so far with zero issues, in spite of some hard driving on rough Belgium highways for 3 months and a few trips abroad.

2006, 7000 miles. Perfect car. Maybe they got the kinks out, but really now. Isn't it too early to know.

I live in Chicago and have no Sirius problems. I had XM in my old car and had no problem with it either. But I do like Sirius programming better.

No problems after 1 year 6500 mi. One visit to dealer for tire rotation - that's it.

Does the car still have the passenger side mirror "look down while parking" feature?

no problems

Now at 2000 mi., no problems and rock solid.

(Only issue was the spooked Bluetooth system eluded to on another post but I don't consider that a car issue per se.)

Yeah, I see the Blutooth complaints... I'd stick with cradle & phone MHI if I move to an '07.

Well I didn't figure you were asking because you were considering a Civic or something.
