Finally done modding...I think

I think I am done modding for now. I am pretty happy with the way the car turned out. I washed the car and decided to take some pics. The latest mods are the tips and bumper cut. I got the tips from Steve. The wheels are painted Designo Graphite. (Thanks benznodubz!)

I like the tips! Were these a direct bolt on or did you have to swap out the mufflers as well?

On the E350 sport theres 2 small pieces that glue to the bumper around the exhaust cutout. Are these avilable separately?

Benz-O-Rama 05-28-2007 10:11 PM

Alright, talk to me about the tips and bumper cut outs. This is EXACTLY the look I want for my E500 but I've been too chicken to cut the bumper. How did you do it? Did you have a template? If so, where did you get it? How much did Steve charge you for the tips?

The car looks good man, real good. Well done. I can't stand the look of the tips sticking out from underneath the rear skirt. This is the way to go.

damn nice cut out!

kaze81 05-28-2007 10:27 PM

I noticed that you still have the upright MB Star logo, changing to Flat Emblem might be another mod?? :D

I got the tips from Steve for $300. Here is a pic of them.

http://www.fajeeh.com/pics/w211/AMGpipes1.JPG

I searched and searched for the stock sport exhaust tips but no dealer would sell them to me. They kept telling me to buy the entire exhaust kit, mufflers and all. The tips were welded onto the original mufflers.

Now I was very hesitant to cut the bumper but a friend of a friend told me that he could cut out the bumper and weld on the tips with no problems. I saw his work and trusted that he could do the job. He made his own template and did the cutting. The right side went on without any modification to the tip but the left one had to be modified. He cut the piping and repiped it so it would fit correctly. The bumper was really easy to cut. I saw him do the left side and all he did was mask it down, pencil in the template and cut with a circular saw or whatever you call it. Then he grinded the edge down to make it smooth. All in all it came out to my liking. My only gripe is that I would have liked the tips to be closer to the edge of the car. Funny thing about the tips though is that they stick out more when they are hot and slide back in after they cool down. Normally they stick out so you can just read the AMG on the top of the pipes. Here is a closer pic of the tips.

Nicely done, your guy did an exceptional job, good luck with it!!

KosherBenz 05-29-2007 07:01 AM

Agreed with Benz-o.. I would love to do that to my rear bumper, but alas... Im to chicken too.

Benz-o,
one day we should get the parts and just cut away at our bumpers togher. We are only 30 minutes from each other.

ruffrob 05-29-2007 08:11 AM

A closer look showed those rims look like the OEM painted in black. What size
are they? Unique touch !!! As for the bumper,I'm more chicken than the two other guys, since I only had my car for less than 5 months. Buck,Buck Buck,Baaaaarrrrrk.....:rolf: :rolf:

+1 but don't use a circular saw, that's one pictured below. Use a Dremel or similar rotary saw. It's easy to do, just take your time. Mask, pencil, cut out with cut off wheel 1/4" from line, followed by the drum sander accessory, then a hand file and then finally some 220 grit paper. Hit the edges with touch up paint and it looks like new. I did mine and a buddy's car. Do a search for "Magnaflow exhaust" for more info.

very nice car. Exhaust and wheels look really good. :)

E500 mods

Congratulations on your well executed mods.
Your car looks very sporty and classy ! :y

gdestiny 05-29-2007 03:04 PM

Thanks for all the kind comments. My guy did use a dremel like rotary saw, not the makita one. It would have been laughs if he did use the makita one though. :smash: I say cut your bumper and get tips because it gives the rear a more sporty look. I always thought the car was lacking something in the rear.

The wheels are 19 inch high pressure cast replicas. I couldn't find the 2 piece AMG SL wheels at a decent price so I just painted the replicas. They get the job done.

I love it!! Very clean and tasteful. Not too much, not too little. Just about right. I love the fact that you did the bumper cut outs, and they look good too!! I absolutely hate the way exhaust tips look when they're sticking out below the rear bumper.

christiaan 07-28-2007 02:34 PM

wow im telling you, if this guy who made these tips would sell them openly, he would make a fotrune!!!!

christiaan 07-28-2007 03:06 PM

Piranajoe 07-28-2007 03:20 PM
