Opinions on a used E500 4Matic

Hi everybody, this is my first of hopefully many posts on this board. I am looking into buying a 2004 E500 wagon, one owner with around 55K miles for around $31K. Does this combo sound good to those who know?

Some details about the car:
Its a lease return with all maint. performed.
Navigation, H/K, changer, 3rd row, heat/vent seats, moonroof, etc.

Pics:

Thanks for any input!

That's a lot of miles. I've seen 2004 E500 4Matic with 30 some-thousand miles for that price. The extra miles on that car come to almost $3K. I'd try to get the car for about $28.5K ...maybe a tiny bit more if you really like it.

Does the car have Nav?

Thanks WEBSRFR! I agree, the mileage is really the only thing holding me back. It has navi.

I think 03-04 and maybe even 05 had lots of problems so check the service records carefully to see what kind of complaints this customer had on the vehicle.

That sucks. I just bought an 03 E500. I hope I'm not into any major troubles. Just what are the usual problems? Oh and the car had 64k miles on it when I bought it....and I paid $23xxx for it at the dealer.

Make sure you have the motor mounts checked, SBC recall all updated, and check if your car has the old type of radiator. They redesigned the radiator to prevent leak of coolant into transmission but this is only a tsb so if your car doesn't have any of the symptoms then they won't do anything about it so see if you can convince them to change it if you do have the old radiator type because if it does leak it means a new tranny is needed.
If you car does not have ticking sound than your motor mounts are OK but if you here any engine ticking sound in the cabin then you might have the older type of motor mounts, they also redesigned these or they had a bad batch in the early 03 model year. Also make sure you have the alternator checked for any updates and recalls.
Maybe you should also consider extended warranty if it isn't too much also. I won't say any more or explain my experience with my 03 E500 because you have some MB yahoos in here who will complain that I am MB bashing. But make sure you read the recall section and also do a search on motor mounts, SBC problems, and also Tranny problems in the forums to get an idea of symptoms so that you know what is wrong if you happen to have the problems. Hopefully you won't have the same experience as me.
