iBenz?? Apple's Nav In Mercs...
Apple is developing a new nav system for Mercs.
According to these articles, it is going to be debut in select models for 2009 and prototypes are being tested now.

Where would Apple get the resources? They had to pull people off Leopard to get the iPhone out the door and now Leopard has slipped into the Fall.

That is GREAT news. If there is one thing really bad about the MB's, it's their NAV systems. I got my daughter a portable Magellen 3100 last week for only $200 and it is FAR superior in many aspects to the MB system. It even works in the garage. Has an easy to use interface and gives adequate voice commands in advance so you don't really have to look at the screen.
I'm driving one of the new C's next month and hope to see the new NAV system in it.
One of my neighbors bought a new Lexus as opposed to the S550 primarily because he disliked the MB COMAND without a touch screen and that stupid do it all knob.

The W204 has a nice Navigation system but I'd bet my pension Apple had nothing to do with it. Apple simply hasn't got enough resources as it is.
Anyone who would chose a car simply because of the Navigation system has got much different priorities than I do.
When I bought my last car, I asked my salesman about the Nav system. He asked me if I planned to deliver pizza because he said that's about all it was good for. That may be stretching it a bit but if I had to choose between a Nav system and the Streets and Trips program I have on my Thinkpad, I'd take the Microsoft program.
Fortunately, I'll now have both in about a week. I'll give it a good test with a 5,000 mile vacation next month.
BTW, my neighbor has a new GS-350 and I couldn't care less what his Navigation system is like, I wouldn't trade cars with him. If nothing else, you can't see out of the thing and the trunk is a joke.

I also would not select a vehicle solely on the basis of a NAV; however, my neighbor got the new Lexus LS 460 over the MB S550 and the NAV was a Major factor in his decision. He aslo has the deluxe rear seats in it with a Video display that drops down for rear seat passengers. Very responsive and will be taking some business from MB in my opinion. The new Lexus LS600H, hybrid with a 438 HP capability is also attractive to the "Tree Huggers" with the big bucks.
The fact MB is at least trying to improve their COMAND is a step in the right direction.

But, have anyone check out PND lately?
Navigon 7100/ 5100 come w/ the "Reality View" and "Lane assistance" that definitely big plus when you driving in major city w/ multi-layer highway.
Oh... I believed they will come w/ Voice Recognition. Touch screen? That's so yesterday, no?
