I see you have the chrome exhaust tip; is the tip exit installed below the oem bumper or did you have to cut out/carve a section of the bumper. I am thinking of installing quad exhaust tips but am afraid if installed below bumper, it would effectively reduce clearence below the bumper. Any opinions please?

Im guessing they are just tips w/ no carving etc.. I am also thinking of putting those on my '05 E, also are those aftermarket wheels? Im trying to get the cls55 style wheels, but Im really afraid of getting wheels that wont even last through the summer

I did not cut/trip the rear bumper; the tips are installed bellow it.
Send me a PM if you are interested in details - i have more pictures showing the installation.
The wheels are the original AMG rims off of the E55, purchased on MB Forum.
I like them a lot.

Here is the picture of the tips installed (initially). Since then i readjusted them and the clearance to the bumper is now less than 1/4" (no touch condition). If you have very steep driveway, the reduced clearance could be an issue. The trips are higher than the bottom of the mufflers.

I bought the tips at: http://www.formymercedes.com/mb.asp

I have more pictures, but taken before i repositioned the tips closer to the bumper. (will post them tonight).
The tips look nicer now. I will take some more pics of the current position and post them later.

Sounds good, also has there been any paint damage from the fumes/heat from the exhaust tip?

Here are the additional pics of the exhaust (before the adjustments).
The tips extend beyond the bumper lip, so there will be no paint damage due to heat.

Looks pretty cool.

how come you didn't get the quads ?? - just wondering cos most people prefer the quads.

andys10 Jul 23, 2007 12:32 PM

I did not like the wimpy look of OEM exhaust tubes hidden behind the bumper.
I felt, that quads (E55 style) would be too much for a Diesel.

Thank you Sir! for posting real pictures. The only thing confusing and one that also makes sense, is your comment about why you did not order quads.
I was thinking about doubles like yours; my son says quads will look better, now I am not too sure. I'll show him your pictures.

I agree...quad exhausts on a 208hp diesel would look very cheesy.

Also for a diesel the downward bent tips will direct the soot and smoke away from the rear bumper and onto the road surface. VW does the same with their diesel models too.
