Found the COMAND manual PDF. Can't cut/paste, but on page 52 of the 2005 E-class COMAND manual it says:

"Permissable bit and scan rates: Fixed and variable bit rates up to 320 kbps."

Further on, it also says: "It is recommended to use mp3 tracks with a bit rate of 128 kbps or higher... lower rates may impair quality."

If it's the whole file name, and not the silly cut-off name the display usually shows, then at least it would be classified as an improvement!

It does display the whole filename across multiple lines if it's long instead of truncating it like on the main display. But that's about all.

Thats how my Single Slot works & looks like. Its good to have all those tunes on one disk. Does your screen display the CD Name & Track Title as it plays each song?

Gus...see above post re bitrate. Record at greater than 128 kbps and less than 320 kbps. I also SLOW down the recording speed to 16X. I find that sometimes makes a difference even on regular CD's.

2000 E320 Won't Play Burned CD's on High-Quality MAM

Hello - new here! I can't believe it, but I invested good money into really high quality MAM audio CDR's and my cd player won't play the burned cd's. It has no problem playing burned cd's on cheap Sony CDR's. Can anyone help? I tried calling and emailing MAM and they couldn't offer any suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

First question is what speed are you recording at and secondly are the cd's 74 or 80 min?

Hi, thanks for replying! After some research, I tried recording it at the lowest speed available on the cd burner I usually use - 10X 1500 kB/s. I have Windows Media Player too and I think it might have lower speeds. I've tried different formats too, like mp3, wma, etc.

If you have a 2000 model, the manufacturer of the changer was Alpine. Alpine, back in 2000 (at least the head units) did not play CD-R discs all that well. Not sure why one brand would work and another would not, but if you find one that is working, I would stick with it. They have different dyes and the laser may read one variant better than another. If the laser reads the Sony, you should get the same sound quality as the other discs. A 0 and 1 is a 0 and 1.

Hi, thank you. It's not the sound quality actually, it is the durability of the Sony that stinks

They deteriorate so quickly, even if just in the stereo, it was worth paying the extra for the MAM cd's.

Are you referring to the Aluminum backing coming off?

Not that I can tell - just apparently fragile to fingerprints, prone to scratching from even careful, normal use, and then even to degradation of sound (not just skipping, etc.)

Guys I'm not sure if you're aware of this but with the latest firmware update, and if you have a DVD drive on your headunit, you can even burn DVD MP3 disc and it will work.

I have an '04 E500 and I updated the Command Software myself from a file I downloaded off the internet (MERCEDES COMAND W211 SERVICE UPDATE - Nov 16 2006 ver 46.06). After this update I can play both CD-R MP3's and DVD-R MP3's only in the head unit and not the CDC. It also displays folders and song info on the display and instrument cluster. Using the DVD media is fantastic - you can load a ton of songs and organize them in folders. From what I have read this works on 03 and 04 models - can't say for the rest.

Haven't tried, but this is a US car and you need a European Command to play video; I do not have a Video button...

Only very very early US COMAND units will play DVD movies if you change the variant coding of the unit. They usually have the pictograms (like the Euro COMAND) on the bottom row instead of RPT/MUTE/EJECT/SEND/END text, and still have the SAT button.

I changed it a while ago and was able to play DVDs but then I upgraded...downgraded and now I can go to EM and even hidden menu, plus the coding menu but in coding menu the system can't be changed to Euro...just 5 us versions....

I can emial it to you - it is a small file and I got it from a torrent engine...it works for my 2004 E500 perfectly...just make sure to finalize the cd using Nero or other cd burning software. I am new to this forum and I am not sure how I would go about getting your email...

Thanks , it worked like a charm and now my head unit will play MP3s and it puts it up on my speedo as well. very nice. I wish I could put my Iphone/ipod info on screen. I have the aux in the glove box and will be routing this down to my armrest but still nice to be able to show it on screen. if any one else needs the update let me know.
It is date ver Nov 2006

Question only a few folders showing

hi
my comand is playing mp3s but not all of them...
for example I burned 7 folders last night on the cd (closed) and put into a comand - only 3 of them were visible.....
do you guys know why is that? do I need to use some special program like nero.....I burned via WIN and the 2nd disc using cdburned, both discs were finalized....
thanks
hubi
