Survey: Navigation Routing Problem
If you have a 2007.1 Navigation DVD and the system does NOT use a direct route to your destination please send me a PM with your experience. Two other members of the 211 forum and I have this problem. If others are also experiencing the same problem I will have more clout with MBUSA to have them investigate & fix this problem. I suspect the problem is either the 2007.1 version DVD coding or MB has not updated the COMAND software to work with this version that was released in July 07.
Thanks,
James

ive had 2005.3, 2006.1 and 2006.2...they all do the same thing in certain areas where i live which is incorrect. for whatever reason it wants me to make a left turn when if i simply go straight its more direct.

Artful Dodger,
I would bet that you have NAV DVD Version 2006.2. Earlier 08 Models that I've checked have this version and it works correctly. But, when I put my 2007.1 DVD into an 08 system it screws up & will NOT plot a direct route!
Please pull your DVD out, check the version & let us know. The version # is printed on the DVD on the right side when held so you can read the label.
Thanks
James

Navigation Routing Issue Solved
Actually solution is in work. Learned this from my SA today, 16Oct07, after his discussions with MBUSA. (Smothers European in Santa Rosa CA is a GREAT dealership). If you have a W211 including the 08 MY AND the Navigation DVD is version 2007.1 you have this problem.
The navigation system will not select the most direct route to a destination if carpool lanes are part of the direct route. It insists on routing you around sections of the highway that include carpool lanes.
MBUSA is aware of the navigation routing problem & is working on a solution. The issue occurs because of the way carpool lanes are coded on the DVD. The repair will be either an upgrade to the COMAND unit software or an updated DVD.
BTW, The 2006.2 version DVD does not have this problem.

So everyone should avoid 2007.1 and wait for 2007.2? Correct?
But what about the people who already are running 2007.1 they cannot go back to 2006.2?

I would wait for the fix or see if the dealer can find a 2006.2 DVD which does not exhibit this problem. Early build MY08 E's, before July07, were delivered with the 2006.2 DVD.
I suspect if the fix involves updates to the COMAND software it might happen sooner than if it involves a new version of the DVD.

Yikes,
Yes you can use the 2006.2 version DVD even if you have had the latest COMAND software update installed. That's the one that gives you ETA on the COMAND screen when the 2007.1 DVD is used. I know it works because I have done it. I borrowed a 2006.2 DVD and my routing issue was fixed but I lost ETA. And, I have the absolute latest, Oct07, version of the COMAND software
James
BTW. MBUSA is aware of the routing problem that the 2007.1 DVD causes & is working on a fix. More info here:

I have the 2007.1, yesterday I went to an admissions meeting with my son at USC (from San Diego), and the nav sent me on the 405 to the 110. I immadiately though that the problem I had seen here before was happening, as I was ready to go on the 5 to the 10. Turns out the nav was right, I made it there in less than 2 hours, and used the carpool lanes that are available about 90% of the way starting around Capistrano. I know the 5 does not have carpool lanes north of Irvine, so by following the rationale above, it probably saved me a ton of time. Maybe what they should do is offer carpool lanes as an option, now I am just not sure not to trust it completely anymore......

I have 2007.1 in a 2008 E550 and also in a 2004 E320, both with the latest Comand update as well. I drive from time to time on the Long Island Expressway, which has HOV lanes, and the system does not reroute me. There are specific instances of choosing a route (not on a carpool route) that is more circuitous than necessary (one was fixed in 2007.1) but nothing like the more general problem described above.
