New S-Type Jag v's E-Class
I would be pertty pist if i bought a jag, and then the next year it has a total redesign:p
Jaguars have horrendous value retention, while the E is near the top end of the entire car universe.
Be sure to figure that into your 'cost of ownership'.
If you get a subsidized lease, that's another issue, of course.
But the Ford connection has done nothing good for Jaguar resale.
If anything, I think the Ford connection has helped Jaguar. The company would have went the way of Triumph and the rest of the British motor industry. Now they at least have a multi-billion dollar company behind them (yes, I know Ford is not doing so well right now). Jaguars today are superior quality to what they used to be.
But in no way would I refute that the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a superior car. My mom always wanted a Jag, so resale values, cost of ownership, and competitors were never a factor in the decision.
I got a super deal I couldn't refuse on the Jag + I'm hoping to pick it up this weekend.
I guess there's no need for me to chat here anymore since I won’t be getting the E. I'm sure you don't won’t me raving on about a Jag.
This is definitely the best car forum around. I hope I can find a decent Jag S-Type one to share my experiences with.
Nice chatting with you all. Enjoy you cars whatever they may be.
I'll drop a line after while to let you all now if I had made a mistake or not!
Ciao!

the S-Type R would smash the E500.. The S Type R has a 390 horsepower 4.2L V8 S/C engine
I believe that the S-Type R costs above $70K for the same price I could get an E55 adn smash the R

nobody can deny that s-type r is a great value
Jag 4.2 V8 Sport 0-100kmh 6.5 - AUD $120,000 on road
Merc E320 Avantgarde V6 0-100kmh 7.7 - AUD $130,000 on road
The 4.2 is even faster than the E500, and I wont even compare the prices with that because there would be enough change back to buy another car.
In couple of years time Australia will be reducing their import taxes a further %5 which should make the E a little more reasonably priced. I may decide to get one then. They always say there's teething problems with the first models...
W211E55: projected cost ~$75,000
Jaguar S Type R: ~$58,500
3 year resale value:
E=$48,000
Jag=$23,500
3 year depreciation:
E=$27,000
J=$35,000
Cost of owning the E is $8,000 LESS!!!!
People seldom take this into account, it seems. A good reason to lease if you can get it subsidized by the corporation. If you can't, the Jaguar will BURN YOU!!!

, Another great point about owning an MB. You deserve a beer bud
We don't have teleaid in OZ and the warranty on the Jag is 100,000km/3yrs free servicing during that period.
Although the Jag requires a servicing every 15K, I believe the Merc. averages 23k.
Believe me, I did my homework. As I said, you get a lot more 'car' buying the Jag. Luxury cars in Australia, whether it is a Jag or Merc/BMW hold their value better than in the US. Simply because there isn't as many on the road. So although the Merc in 5 years will probaly be worth more, the Jag wont be far behind it. Remember I got a lot more to start with anyway.
And in 5 years time hopefully I'll be driviing something even better. Maybe a Merc....
