Nav. DVD, should I wait? Is this a good price?

So I am thinking about buying an upgraded/updated DVD for my Navigation system. I am going to be driving a long way this summer across the US and Canada. So here is what I have found:

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...llProducts=YES

It is a Navteq product and it is $199.00 It says that it is version: NTG1 v.7.0

Does anyone know if this is a relatively recent database update? Is it worth buying it now or does anyone know it a newer version will be coming out before June? I will be driving from Colorado to MN, then up to Canada all the way to Vancouver, to Seattle and then back to Colorado.

Any input would be appreciated.

Steve

Nav update

I did the update for a 2004 E-320. The price charged by Navtech is the best price for the data disk. In addition you will need to upgrade the Comand unit in the dash and the DVD unit in the trunk. This requires a CD and a DVD. I purchased the MB OEM disks used them once and have them for sale for $60 including shipping. See my prior postings.

Don't know about the disk, but I am surprised to see that Navteq is once again selling NavUpdate Disks. They used to, then they were only available from MB Dealer's Parts Departments, & now they're back at Navteq again.

How does the price compare with the price at the dealer (where the counter man doesn't have to sell it to you at list if he doesn't want to.)

OK, so more or less, you need to upgrade the COMAND. Mine was upgraded a long time ago, but who knows if that is the upgrade needed. It has been able to play MP3s for years. However, I will call and see if the software upgrade for the COMAND is included with the DVD. I would imagine that it should be part of it. I will also call the dealer and ask what their price is.

If I think that I need to buy the software, then I will talk to you. I am originally from Boca, so I can have someone pick it up if need be.

Thanks for the info,

Steve

Did you happen to find out anything on this? I am interested in doing something similar with my 2005.

Update Navtech data disk

The latest version of the Navtech data disk is NTG1 Ver. 7.0. You must also obtain the MB upgrade CD for the Comand unit in the dash and the DVD to upgrade the trunk DVD player. I have the OEM disks which I used once for sale for $60 including shipping.
Check the Navtech site for more information. The MB OEM disks have to be purchased separately from the data disk as they are not included with the Navtech data upgrade.

I have not had time to do anything lately, I will be looking into this soon though.
