why god....why?????

why would they put this fog light (pic 1) on such a beautiful car?

OK I was so inspired by my hatered of the fog lights on my 07 E550 sport that I just ran out to the garage to take this picture. It just looks sooooo stuck-on, like an after thougth.

Please tell me that there is an OEM or aftermarket part from a 350, or non-sport 550 that will look better than this.

I want it clean, considered removing them but then I would have a hole...and no fog lights, or drop an after market in set deeper in the cut out?

I like the lights on the grey 320 (2nd pic) will they fit...i think not but let me know if you have any options.

Oh yea, I do not want to change the whole front clip just for new fog lights.

Thanks

Kevin

They set the Sport version apart from the non sport version.

I don't care for them either - unneccessary bling, in my opinion, on an upper class vehicle that normally exudes understated elegance and luxury. Feel the same way about 20" wheels, the big honkin quad tipped duals, scooped/scaloped body kits, etc-etc. Just seems to be about "Hey, LOOK at me!". Not "dissing" anyone, style is a very personal matter.

Then again, I'm also 48 so that stuff is unimportant to me now and I'm not trying to impress anyone. I don't need to draw attention. I all I want is reasonably rapid, somewhat sporty, transport while maintaining a low profile.

If I do have a need to do a little profiling, I drag out my triple black 1966 Impala Super Sport convertible with a big block and factory 4 speed. With a stout 489, one is definately going to need at least an E63 to keep up with it from light to light. Just don't ask to actually go around a corner!

+1 on age versus "improvements". As you say each to his own. If I am shopping for a used vehicle I pass on any that have been personalized. Collector cars that have hyper price tags are alomst always low production bone stock.
To me the most impressive part of a car is the brakes. If you see multiple pots and big rotors all the way around, somebody is hiding something under the hood.

Maybe not the case with your Impala, I had one with a small block and it was kind of like that scene in the cowboy movies where the buckboard, having lost the team goes headlong over the cliff

You're kidding me right??? Those fog lights are one of the most beautiful details on the 07/08 (and I hope 09) MY E-Class! I love how they look on the E and (very similarly) on the GL. I wish I could get them for my ML too!

The above goes to show that we all have different taste and what some might find cool, others find fugly. The good thing is that we all get along!

You can remove the chrome strips around the foglight. It will look much cleaner. I personally like the new foglights.

Thanks for all the input...I think it is the chrome I object to, not the shape of the light specifically.

Although, I have seen better integration into the bumper, specificity the way the e320 fogs "fit" right into the bumper cut out (love that).

I will try removing or painting the chrome trim around the light, before I go aftermarket.

You could always offer to trade with someone, in the classifieds?

I know what you mean about the chome bits. On the other hand, when I see those little fogs I just think "Oh, it's a sport", so it does distinguish the sports from the others.

Exactly my line of thinking. Seeing a "low key" car, only to observe that it has massive 14 or 15" rotors and simple black calipers connnected to some braided lines, brings forth but one word; "Oh." It may not look all swoopy, but he's more than likely going to take your lunch money. OF's like me call them sleepers.

It's definately the case with my Impala Clinton, your description is rather accurate. Thankfully, I get my rush from the acceleration, not from high speed. I did get a rush once or twice trying to haul it down but it was not a pleasent rush, so I don't do that any more. I'm sure you can relate. The old car is unruely, crude, uncomfortable, unpredictable (handling - if you can call it that) and the brake pedal is almost whimsical. What it IS, however, is a time machine. Pull that old sled into the gas station, or anywhere else for that matter, and any other hardware that is there becomes invisible.
