DIY: Installing a new Changeover/Heater Control Valve
#127
Newbie
Simple enough job to do... I had a mechanic do it on my 05 e500 for under 75$ including the parts, time was under 1 hour..... ( Current location of Car is Amman, Jordan)

Is it most likely the changeover if all vents (front and back) are blowing cold/ambient air when the heat is tunred on, but blow colder than ambient air if the AC is turned on? Or is it the S.A.M.?
Thanks
Thanks

Just did mine and had a few hangups.
1. The o ring on the valve that goes into the engine bay was too big in the new unit. It took me over an hour to figure out why the damn thing would not fit back in. I finally looked at the o rings and noticed that there was a very small difference, about 1/2 mm, between the one from the old valve and the new one. So I put the old one in the new valve and it fit like a glove.
2. I somehow stripped the socket on the wind shield wiper. I think I did not have it on tight enough and tried it stripping it. At least my driver side works. Anyway take time when re installing the wipers. Now I have to find a new wiper and hope the drive screw is not worn too much.

C32 AMG, E55 AMG (w211)
Followed the steps outlined in the post and replaced my changeover valve with no problems. I had to refill a small amount of coolant to make up for the little that comes out when you disconnect the hose going into the engine bay. I also had a terrible time getting the windshield wipers to work properly again, but after repositioning them and tightening them 3-4 times they work great again. Thanks again for the excellent write up!

Right hand drive W211 not the same :-(
Hi guys, brand new on here, first post, just changed my old W210 for a W211, still 320 cdi, this one is Jan 2004.
I have the heater problem so was encouraged by this thread, bought the part from local dealer, £24.00 here in England.
I got the weather strip off, removed the wipers etc etc, all OK, at this point I lifted the rubber flap and the valve was not there.
On further investigation I found it below the brake thingy (with lots of pipes), and looks very difficult to get at. Certainly beyond my capability.
So I have booked it into my local garage to have them change it for me.
Worth noting this guys, so any UK (or other RHD) unfortunately it is not so easy.
Thanks anyway, I will keep an eye on this forum.

Magnificient post. Very well done, and lucky owners of W211 for this.
However, I have a W220 and need similar info for the duo valve that controls the reai air condigtioner. That rear AC only blows air, but not cold air. Must be the duo valve.
Can anybody help?

Hi Guys,
I am currently having problems with the air conditioning. It seems that the right side (driver side) is blowing hot air instead of cold air, while passenger side is blowing cold air like it is supposed to.
Are this Changeover/Heater Control Valve cause of my problem?
Thanks You in advance.

Aircon on, but air doesn't feel cold (E320 CDI W211 2007)
Aircon on, but air doesn't feel cold (E320 CDI W211 2007).
I was at a workshop. Both the cold and varm had a good pressure.
He got the temp down to 6 celcius degrees by measuring the temp at the vents-opening inside the car.
He said that there was enought refrigerant on the system - because it could cool down to 6 celcius degrees (he didn't emptied the refrigerant). He also showed me the water drops on the cold tube.
Nothing else was done.
The next days I tried setting the temp at 12 celcius degress or LOW and the fan at full power - no cold air :-(
In 3 weeks before I visited the mechanic the vents mostly blows normaltemp-air. (only periodic I think I felt cold air).
I can't feel any difference in the 4 zones. All normal temp air.
Does that excludes the heater control valve?
What's wrong?

Thank you for the write up and pictures w211 RYDA, I completed the job yesturday, it is nice having cool a/c in the back. My water stays nice and cool now that the console is not at 100 degrees. I got the original Mercedes parts from mbzwholesaleparts.com out of Portland Oregon, a couple dollars more than parts.com but they allow Canadians to purchase with a credit card. thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it.

Hello on my 2006 e320 CDI at 80 outside when I press the auto on the climate control set at 68 the system will blow hot air for about 1 to 2 minutes from the vents under the dash and the side vents then will cool and everything is fine but if I turn off the car for 5 or 10 minutes the same hot air routine then all is well.I put my gauges on the freon and got 30 psi low side 200 high side seems about normal is it the change over valve and does the CDI have the same setup thank you Don
When its 90 F outside, it will blow super HOT air when I start engine. after 2 min, it will start blowing cool air, not cold air.
Checked my freon level, has good pressure & no leaking.
Can anyone tell me if this is right part to replace ?
Thank you.

For right-hand drive RHD, read post #29 in this thread
For right-hand drive RHD, look at post #29. That may help, but frankly the hoses look very, very different to my LHD E320.

Thanks you saved me alot of money
The DIY was very descriptive and good pics on step by step even explained about when taking out the screws they are tough, i ended up taking the whole wipers out to make it easier when taking out the heater valve i also recommend using needle nose pliers also the hanger worked alittle but the needle nose is better it took about 1hr and half thats taking time and going through everything .Thanks once again.

This write up is what makes this group so fantastic to be a part of. I should have checked here before I had the dealer fix my '04 E320 Estate for $500. I do have a 2-yr. warranty on parts and labor associated with all repairs. So, there is peace of mind.
