COMAND APS - is it running late?

Has anyone been delivered with the new COMAND APS system - with DVD Sat-Nav and player system? E320 in Australia comes with this as standard, but it seems that its delivery has been delayed. Originally, cars delivered by Nov 2002 were going to have the new system installed (and early cars retro-fitted free), but it seems that the system will now arrive only in July 2003. Anyone know why?

In Canada, we are still in the dark on this subject. Still no price listed for Command. Dealers do not even know when the retrofit kits will be available.

craigng, a little off the topic, but I noticed you are buying an E320 Avantgarde. We are still considering our possibilities and I was just wondering if you found the Avantgrade (sports) suspension much firmer than the Elegance's standard set-up. And have you tested it with the 17" alloys? I just thought I'd ask an Aussie as our road conditions are considerably different to those of the US. Any feedback would be great!

And as for COMAND APS, mercedes-benz.com.au now says July 2003, so I guess we'll have to wait until the middle of the year.

drb: I'd check with your US dealer, the July date was posted by a member in Australia.

My memory is sketchy, but I thought the US COMAND was delayed until ~April. I thought it related to an agreement Harman International signed with (I forget) that doesn't go in effect until January. Harman will use (I forget) technology to integrate with real-time traffic reports in the US and re-route you real-time.

If I hadn't killed so many brain cells this holiday season, I could probably find the link to the press release.

Hi Andrew

I tested both the Elegance version and the Avantgarde version before I placed my order ... to be honest, the difference in suspension is not very noticeable, although Avantgarde is meant to have a lowered sports suspension. Both cars I tried had 17" wheels.

At the end, I just preferred the look of the Avantgarde, with the five-spoke wheels, black-eye maple trim and the white instruments!

craigng, thanks for the reply. I agree with you about the look of the Avantgarde; the bumpers, wheel design etc. I am also glad to hear that the suspension difference isn't that noticable - we sort of want some comfort in a $130,000 car!

I've been told by the dealer Navi will be available in Feb. production. The $500 promo will go away at that time.
