Tyres for 18's?

Ok, first off I have STFF and can't find anything that helps me, also here in the UK thats how we spell Tyres! (US = Tires)

I want to upgrade the wheels on my E but I don't want to sacrifice ride comfort too much, on my C-Class when I put 18's on it, the ride was horrid, can feel every little bump in the road which is just how a Merc shouldn't feel.
I understand on the E class, a popular choice on the wheel size is 19", so if I put 18" wheels on it and had tyres with a bigger sidewall would it be more comfortable than 19's and also not look like im riding on roller skate wheels because 18's with low profile tyres on an E would look ridiculous im sure.

Any help or suggestions of Tyre sizes and makes would be great.

What size are you running now? Keep in mind, that in general, the shorter the sidewall, the rougher the ride.

BTW,

Did you STFF using TYRES or TIRES? :rolf:

As a matter of fact ,they would look pretty good ,although the ride definitely suffers. I hope they keep up the roads where you live, cause you may need buy more 'tyres' than you planned. Good Luck

Haha good point!

I am running the standard 16" set up right now.
Was thinking of pulling the Carlsson style wheels off my C class and putting tyres with a bigger side wall on them and then putting them on the E.

The roads where I live are ****ty, I honestly don't know why I pay Road Tax, it doesn't seem to get spent on fixing the mass amounts of pot holes and lumps!

I'll update with pics when I have them mounted :y

Better STFF for fitment. Different mounting hardware. Make sure you run spellcheck prior to STFF. :D

i had 17" whit 245/45 now i have 18" whit 245/40 tires and a notice a little loss in comfort, but the car looks great and nice on 18"

I also had stock 235/45/17 all around and then moved to the stock staggered
AMG 18" size 245/40/18 front, 265/35/18 rear.

The 17" tires were some new Falken Ziex 3?? and the 18" tires are
some new Goodyear Eagle F-1 all season.

Did not notice much difference in comfort and love the more aggressive stance, overall looks and increased handling, road feel (the primary goal) :D

The downside is my avg mpg seems to be reduced by ~2-3 mpg :(

In the US tires (tyres) for the E are 17 inch standard.

With the "sport" package they are 18 (245x40-18). They are far superior to the 16's that were on my 2004 E320. Those were balloons. The stiffer suspension on the "sport" doesn't hurt either, but it is a matter of taste.

I'd personally go for Michelin Pilot Sport or Pirelli P-Zero Nero M/S. The Michelins are more expensive, by a wide margin.

Good Luck
