Charcoal air filter in E class

Charcoal air filter in E class
I use to have the filter in my older E and it comes handy. I do not see this feature in newer E. Manual just says that climate control system will switch to recirculation if level of CO high. So I am curious is a charcoal filter still here and working like in BMW cars i.e. gets activated automatically, or it is cutting cost for E?

Not all older E-class (W211) cars had the charcoal filter in the cabin. The new ones anyway have a combined filter at the engine bay.
