Cool things I've learned in a little over a month of E class ownership.

- The trunk latch in the driver side door not only opens the trunk if pulled, but also closes the trunk if pushed.

- There is an iPod jack in the glove box.

- The passenger's side mirror can be set to adjust downward when you put the car in reverse.

- The windows and sunroof can be lowered remotely to cool the car by holding down the unlock button on the key.

- By turning the key to the on position and holding the gas pedal down for two minutes, you can reset to factory defaults.

- The nav disk can be updated.

- A scratched nav screen (anti glare scratched off in places) is easy to repair.

- The rear fog light is just on the driver's side. :nix:

Also if you press and hold the recirc button, all the windows and sunroof close. Then, when pressed again, they re-open to their previous position.....

Also, if you enter your bankcard pin code on the comand unit, money will spit out the CD slot.......

:y

And in my case, I enter the code in my COMAND and money spits out in my WIFE's G35 cd slot :wall: Talk about technology.......

Also, if you move the fuses for the 2 power sockets (cig lighter) on the engine compartment, you can make them key-switched or always on. I have the front one switched and the rear one on.

USC96, are you a USC grad/student? My son just started there.....:D

Only if car is equipped with power close trunk option.

Disc can't be updated, but can insert a new version disc which the system will afterwards access.

As is the norm in Europe; always on driver's side

Which Factory defaults will be Set when you hold the Gas down?

Also, how the h** do you make the mirror tilt downwards when reversing?

Fabboi 09-03-2008 12:05 AM

Might not be an option on the 2006 as it was removed from some later models - it is in the Instrument Cluster Settings menu under Convenience and is labeled "Mirror Adjustment Parking Aid" and can be turned on or off. For it to work, your passenger side mirror must be selected on the driver's door.

If you have ventilated seats, this option is also enabled for the driver's seat when you roll down the window to cool the surface of the seat faster.

You can also select global (all doors + fuel door and trunk) unlocking or driver-door-only (them press a second time to open the rest of them) unlocking by holding both unlock and lock down on the SmartKey and waiting until the LED blinks on it.

I don't have the nav screen scratch issue, but would be interested in knowing how you fixed it.

lkchris already covered this but I'd like to add that currently EU rules do not allow a rear fog lamp on both sides (it was allowed first when those appeared). This is in order not to confuse drivers at the back to assume you are braking.

Congrats hahah.

I am not sure whhat is meant by switching fuses to power a 12 v port at all times. Do you mean switch the wires ? Which ones? It would surely help with charging phones overnight.

"The trunk latch in the driver side door not only opens the trunk if pulled, but also closes the trunk if pushed.

I'll have to try the button for the rear hatch to see if it works the same way on a wagon.

Regarding the window/sunroof remote opening -- I tried this the other day when the car was parked in the sun, and it didn't do anything. Is this feature not available with Keyless Go?

I'm curious about the need to charge phones over night. Do you have a specific phone at the car if you leave it there over night? If yes, why does it need to get charged, it would have enough power when ever you drive and use it. I'm afraid you would unnecessarily discharge the battery if the phone is left connected to the charger for a long time.

Summer convenience feature should work with KG equally as a basic key. Did you point the door IR receiver with the key (it does not work with RF, the key IR transmitter must see the door IR receiver). It also does not work if windows have not been normalised. The lack of this can be found if the windows do not close/open at one touch (in that case you have to keep the window control button pressed to make the window go fully open/closed).

I'm curious about the first comment. I'll have to check that out. :y

As to the second part (how to fix a scratch), here is the answer:

Actually I graduated from the other USC (for law school). I wish I had the foresight to choose a university across the country, but I was young and naive and stayed in my home state of SC. :smash: At least it was cheap. With my scholarship, my tuition was about $1,000 a year. If I had it to do over again, I'd be a Univ. of Hawaii grad. :y

I feel real lucky that I held out for a CPO car loaded with options. My volvo S80 had just broken down, so I was going to buy a car. I looked at several 2005 and 2006 E models, but due to my wife's having a loaded honda Odyssey, I said I had to have nav and sat radio. All of the other options didn't mean anything to me, but in spite of that, I ended up with all these extras on the car they located for me. Right place at the right time I guess. Now I have heated seats, nav, keyless entry, Keyless go, power trunk, iPod connect and upgraded stereo, auto dim mirrors, rear shade, auto wipers, and probably a few things I don't even realize I have yet. I have the window sticker and it looks like all the add ons cost the original owner $7,000 or so. :naughty:

I've already started playing around with the build your own car feature on the MB website, and I'm shocked to see how much each of these features add to the bottom line. MB really nickel and dimes its customers. However, when buying uses, all those add ons don't really make a difference in purchase price, so I'm happy.

If I could add anything to what I have, I might choose the massage seats, but I can't think of much else. After I bought and while observing what was out there, I thought I'd want the cool double chrome exhausts of the "sport" model, but I'm starting to like the understated look of the E350 model I selected. Though I will say the blue tint on the sport is rather cool looking though. Maybe when I jump up to the E550 (or whatever they have in 2011), I'll look for that blue window tint? :D

Sorry to go O/T, but how did your S80 treat you and how did it break down? I'm looking for a cheap DD to get me cross state on my frequent work trips and need something safe, for the money nothing comes close in the safety department....

Why not drive your E350, it is designed to be a commuter car.

Ahh, I was a business major myself, graduated in May. I could def give him some inside info on classes/professors. My little brother is still there, Junior in Marshall. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
