2009 E550 Subwoofer install Question
 

I have heard from a few people at different shops that i will have problems with charging/alternator issues after installing a big stereo system in my e class. By big i mean something like 1000-1500 watt amp and 2 10s or 12s and obviously another amp for whatever door speakers i decide to put in. Has anybody heard of anything like this.:nix:

You can have lots of problems if install is not done correctly.

If the installer is experienced with MB cars, it should be no issue. An aftermarket amp is a very easy install in these cars (all wiring is in trunk--power/ground/remote/factory amp). If you are using quality aftermarket amps (ex. the newer Alpine DDX) they have great output with 30 amp max draw. You can also install a capacitor to help keep enough amps on reserve.

I actually installed my system myself really easy..Just a couple parts from pepboys and yur installed in an hour..I have a e350 with harmon karmon system that I modified and installed aftermarket amp and 2 subs

MB211, how do you add an amp to an AGW?
I have a pair of Rockfords sitting around that would drive my MB Quart components better than the Amp in the AGW but how would you go doing this? I would love to update my sub too but i'm sure the oem amp wouldn't have the power to drive it.

Like stated above, if it's not installed properly, then yes you could potentially have problems. I would recommend an audio capacitor if you're going with some high wattage equipment.

I just want some more amplification.

I cut the 4 wires going to the sub in the trunk...What I did with those wires was connect it to a line output convertor(10 Bucks)..The line output convertor is what your goning to connect your rca cables to which also connects to the amp..the blue amp wire I connected to I think fuse 7 in the back left panel..It should be empty so I would stick a fuse 25 with the amp wire..Then the power cable I just ran from the trunk battery..Pretty easy install so need to mess with the factory head unit..I didnt mess witht he stock amp but just added my aftermarket for my 2 12s...Bumps crazy...I dont know if the stock amp is still suppyling the internal speakers or my aftermarket amp but they all work perfect..

Does anyone have the wiring diagram of the factory amp. Where is the amp located exactly?

its very simple man pop open the mesh behind the headrests in the back seats, unclip the clips going into your stock subwoofer (both) then get pin crimps to squeeze into the harnesses (unless you want to just snip the harnesses off and save them to solder together when you sell/take out the subs) then when you unclip both harnesses (brown is negative) send 4 wires out of your harnesses two out the positive and two out the negative's of the harnesses (then join the wires, positive w. pos. negative w. neg) so now what you have is the harnesses connected with each other... purchase a in line converter (they sell them on crutchfield, i recomend there's, but i have used the best buy one on my friends car and it was fine as well) this... has positive and negative wires as well (match the wiring two the converters wires, on the other end of the converter are RGA wires) connect ure RGA's to it from the amp then you simply tuck away the converter with all the work you did (its complete you wont be using it anymore) take the rga plug it into your amp, along with the positive and negative form your battery... connect your subs (i believe this is the easiest part.... after they are in the enclosure just connect the pos. and negative signals onto the amp) and then connect the amp's remote (i used the fuse box (WARNING: find a fuse that does NOT remain on when the cars off, such as what keeps your cars times on and stuff) b.c.... this is going to cause the amp to run overnite while your car is off and you'll be scurrying to jump start your car the next day... and then... go to your headunit... and enjoy your new subwoofer system (i have 2,000 watts in mine and i never had a problem so dw about your alternator or warnings) these cars have SO much electrical power in them that the alternators are BEYOND their limits... (along with the subs i also have my head lights and fogs with HID's and the subs and the lights don't even dim when bass hits in the car) hope i helped anything you dont understand from my "write up" just ask or PM me i'll even go open the area and show you what mine looks like :y

I don't have a diagram, but the most important thing is that you make sure to hook your remote wire to a source that is only on when the car is on, preferably only when the stereo is on. Otherwise you will drain the battery when the engine is not running and the car is off.

Nothing others haven't said. My main reaso for posting is to say that you have one sick looking E. I'm not usually in to white, but that thing is all business. The white lipped rims really set off that white. Nicely done.

Some Kenwood amps (not all) have signal-sensing turn-on circuitry. When the speaker-level input is used, it is not necessary to connect the power control wire (turn-on lead). The amplifier senses the signal from the speaker-level input and turns the amplifier power on automatically. Shortly after no signal is detected, the amplifier will automatically shut itself off.

This takes care of 2 issues in one shot: switching power and signal input. So you would not need the remote wire nor the low level signal converter.

eXcelon amps DO NOT have this system, so you would be looking at the KAC-9104D (2009) KAC-9105D (2010) KAC-8104D (2009) and KAC-8105D (2010). Anyone interested, I can hook you up at good prices.

did you do the install yourself?
Just wondering. I want to put an amp and couple 10's in the trunk, but am worried about the way our stereo's dont let the speakers go louder past a certain point. I wanted to know if the head unit kept your 12;s from going to thier full potential when the radio is at 100%

The same install configuration. An Alpine sub amp,and two JL Audio subs.

Anyone thought about just replacing the stock subwoofer with something better? If so, what are the dimensions?

i have 2 amps with three 10's and my capacitor has never let me down. IMO just get a capacitor. :D

Is that a 2-channel line output converter? Is Scoshe a good brand? I found it at Crutchfield's.

I am trying to buy all the components first, before I consider whether to do the install myself or pay someone.

I am actually doing the same thing pretty soon, i have a 2007 e350 and 2 12 inch audioque, with a 1200watt amp.

At first i planned on hooking the line output converter to the rear door speaker, but since the car has a stock subwoofer i was told i can wire it from that, also what you guys have said.. So this helps me a lot! :)))

Hey guys, would any of you know which fuse slot can i use to run the remote amp wire? I know that there are a few open one that are not used and dont just want to stick the remote wire in any slot. Any help would be great!

This might also be silly, but after pulling out the mesh, I have also discover that there are two more little tweeters that sits next to the side of the sub, it must have not been design to be loud, or maybe I am just not in the back seat enough. My brother once road in my car to a party and we turn up the music and he ask me "hey is your rear speakers on", i was discourage and said hell yea it is. I notice that when the logic 7 surround is turned on, fron the rear seat, most of the sound is coming from the front of the car overpowering the rear sounds, when the surround is off, it seems more balance and I can hear speakers from all around the car definitely knowing that there rear speakers are on. Any of you experience this or do not prefer the surround sound setting.

Anyone know how to make the stereo louder without replacing everything? I've read here that they limit the volume on the stock units.
