You didn't mention which model year?

however the eclass issues beginning in 03 which are to be better approaching current year.

Ball joint failures 60,000 miles
Electronic brake failure
Electric door locks
Brake pad wear at 35000 miles
Air ride suspension shock/air spring failures
Transmission leaks 5 speed
Tire cupping

Engine issues,, none noted. Realise many had some issues, and some had no issues. As you approach 08 models issues appear at least early in their life cycle to be better cars.

10x a lot for your help, well ur right i havent mentioned the year. its a 2003 model and its a german model with a seven speed transmission and nearly 70,000 miles. i dont know if the problems are different between a german and an american E class. im a little bit afraid of purchasin it and then havin big problems.

Equipment, wheels, and option packages differ from country to country, but all of them are "German". The 2003 here had 5 speeds, not 7 speeds. The 2004s introduced the 7 speed on Rear Wheel Drive models here... all wheel drives have 5 speeds to this day. The '03s '04s & '05s were not as good as newer ones.

Mich,

All E-class are imported from Germany. MB has assembly plants here in the States but it's limited to only a few classes .. I think the SUV's like the G-class .. maybe the C-class as well .. not sure

By MY 2006 many of the kinks had been worked out but that's not to say the 2003 won't be a good car. If the price is very good and the dealer can throw in a warranty for at least a year it may be worthwhile .. but that's for you to decide!

Check to see whether it has the original OEM Valeo radiator installed........if it does, I wouldn't buy it without demanding the dealer replace it with the upgraded radiator. Check out the various transmission postings on this forum on the 2003 E series vehicles where the radiator has failed (integrated radiator for both engine and transmission) and coolant contaminates the transmission fluid and then ruins it......happened to me at 40,000 miles but my CPO warranty fixed it. The dealer can verify which radiator is installed, i.e., if it has the original radiator or the replacement version. I can send you the MB TSB if you PM me your email address.

well 10x guys for ur help, im begining to be a little bit afraid, i have to really be carefull before buyin it. I planned to take it for a check up at the end of the week. the dealer wanted to give me a warraanty on the chassis but not on another thing, thats y i posted this thread. Now I know y the warranty is limited.

Im also gona check the radiator to be sure. When u say upgraded version u mean the one after 2006??

10x again for ur help guys, im now more conscious about the different points i have to check.

The replacement radiator for a 2003 E series vehicle is Part No. #A2115003102 which has the modified/upgraded crimping for the connectors. If you went to a MB Dealer Parts Department and asked them to look up the radiator, the catalog will show that part no. and that it replaces the original Part No. A2115000202. I verified this since, when my radiator failed and my CPO warranty paid for the repair (radiator and torque converter), I was concerned that maybe the old style radiator was installed again and I might have another radiator failure down the pike. But, I checked my service paperwork, and the replacement part was installed and I even had my MB Dealer verify it was indeed the new type radiator when I went in for my last service visit.
